One of my favorite May wildflowers is the "Mayapple". It grows in the woodlands where I live.
If you do not look carefully, you will miss the lovely flowers. They are underneath the leaves!
Mayapples are also called American mandrake, Umbrella plant, Hog-apple and Devil's apple. The roots, stems and leaves are poisonous to eat! But I have heard that when the tiny fruit develops late in June, a lemony-flavored jam can be made from it. I would love to know if any of you have tasted it.

Did you know I was raised in and still am living in the country and in all my life (nigh-on a half century) I have never seen a Mayapple bloom nor the fruit in real life?
DeannaI always forget to keep an eye on the small patches of them to watch for the blooms or fruit.
Thanks for posting these MayApple pictures. And Thanks also adding the info about their toxicity, I've met a lot of folks who don't know that there is a danger there.
I'm glad you like my rain lily picture. I love them, but have yet been successful in keeping them in a flower garden... the wee critters steal the bulbs and move them all over our property each year. lol It's kind of cool to see where they will come up in the yard from year to year, even my husband enjoys this curious aspect of our rain lilies. It's like an Easter egg hunt for them. lol ;)
Wishing you an enchanting day & rest of the week!
