About Me: Gruess dich! I am a nerdy graduate student studying history and German, stuck in the middle of nowhere, Ohio. My wonderfully talented sister (don't judge her by the crappiness of my work) is here too, so go check out Enchanted! My main diversion is making doll clothes for Asian Ball Jointed Dolls. Many of the pictures I'll be posting show outfits that I have made; I'd be willing to sell most of them or make something similar if someone happened to find this site and ask me. So if you like something you see, make an offer! But mainly I need another blog like I need writer's block on my thesis, so this site will be more for showing off my doll pictures than anything else.
Music: Oh I listen to many things, though I need to plug some German and Austrian artists so they can make it in English speaking countries. LaFee, Tokio Hotel and Christina Stuermer are all highly recommended.
Movies: Oh, many movies. I grew up with Mel Brooks and The Princess Bride. I like most movies with Heath Ledger because he is adorable and most with Johnny Depp because he's adorable and can act.
TV: I don't really watch TV, though I do download new episodes of Lost.
Books: Harry Potter, of course, like the rest of the world. I haven't read much outside of school books recently. I like horror and fantasy and tend to either laugh or cry at the innaccuracies of historical fiction.
Likes: German and Austrian stuff, traveling, animals, the textile arts
Dislikes: mushrooms, lack of free time, lack of money
Hobbies: Haha, what little time I have for hobbies is taken up with knitting and sewing and doing a little recreational reading.
Vices: If you put sushi in front of me, I WILL eat it.
Virtues: Hmm...for some reason it is easier to come up with vices.
Heroes: Hermione Granger; she has powers of concentration and determination that only a fictional character can have and gives nerds everywhere a good name.

    Sun and rain

Well the past few days have been exceptionally lovely in terms of weather, especially for this part of Ohio.  After the cloudy, long, dreary winter, I wish I had had the time to really enjoy it.  But, alas, it is the time of year when I am chained to my computer, locked away in my office, with only the janitor to keep me company.  And now, as the weekend approaches and I might have the time to take a walk or look at the buds on the trees, it has turned cold and rainy.  I suppose they don't say "April showers" for nothing.  Of course, they don't mention "horrid, gusty, umbrella-breaking winds" anywhere in that saying.

Our weather is unsettled here too - we had snow last week, it was really unusual to see blossoms with snowflakes on them! I'm sending you an enchanted wish dear Beth, for a sunny spring weekend...

    Spring Break is over...

    Monday, March 10, 2008, 09:41 AM [General]

and yet again I failed to take the time to take new photos and post pictures here.  Part of it is the weather and the crappiness of my camera.  We are buried under about a foot of snow (not too bad considering I live in the armpit of Ohio) but the people who plow must get paid by the mile, since they tend to spend a lot of time plowing the already cleared parking lots, scraping them up horribly and leaving huge piles of dirty snow.  That and the cloudy weather are not inspiring for taking pictures of expensive dolls.  My camera just hates my poor doll and likes to make her nose disappear. She needs a new faceup so maybe when that happens I'll see if they can do some sort of shading near her nose to make it not blend in so much.  Or I could pop for a decent camera!  Hah!

But I do have new outfits and a person in Bath, England who loves the Civil War stuff I do, so I've got to keep her in mind whenever I start doing more sewing.  It's been mostly knitting recently, and not much of that given how much schoolwork I have.  I cannot wait until the summer when I have both free time and my sewing machine!

*sigh* I've never been good with titles

    Tuesday, November 6, 2007, 11:13 PM [General]

Well, I certainly have been ignoring this page, though schoolwork has been taking up most of my time.  I did set some time aside to start working on a few new outfits.  I finished the red one (pics posted) and took Amara over to a nearby cemetery for some Halloween inspired photos.  As my friends know, I like cemeteries and I always feel bad when I see graves that are in poor condition.  For several months a few years ago I would take flowers out to the local pauper cemetery and put them on neglected graves.  They were only cheap carnations, but it still made me feel better.  I sometimes think that I was once a cemetery caretaker in a previous life.

My, that was a long ramble.  Anyway, I'm working on a strapless evening dress in a lovely purple fabric, but since I wanted to make it seamless down the front I'm having difficulty getting to properly fitted.  Hopefully I'll work it out over the next couple weeks when I can find the spare time.

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome, come on in!

Welcome to my new blog, devoted purely to my doll clothes. I'm still a pretty bad photographer, so that is what I'll have to work on next.  But, like my profile says, most of these things are available for sale, or I can make you the same/very similar items.  Feel free to comment or message me about it.  Otherwise, I don't have much to say yet!

Hello Beth, so great to meet dear Enchanted's sister, Welcome!

You probably know this already, but for those that don't - Amy Brown, Nene Thomas and Renee Biertempfel (blogs on these last two coming up this week...) are collectors of these exquisite dolls - BJD's.

I'd never actually seen one before we were staying with Amy last summer and she showed us her collection. They are awesome! So beautiful but, understandably, expensive - so a true luxury and a passion only indulged when their art sells! Amy often has pictures of them on her main site and her darling mom, Nancy Brown, makes clothes for them too (as does Nene for hers)! So I've seen the kind of intricate outfits you must make - Wow! Nancy sometimes offers the costumes for sale through Amy's original site www.amybrownart.com (Amy's latest work is now on her newer site www.amybrowncollection.com) and I'll be blogging soon about her talents too - the clothes are often based on Amy's work (how lovely is that!) and occasionally Amy sells through part of her private collection to make room for her latest additions...

I'm doing an article on these gorgeous girls' hobby for Faerie Magazine and we recorded Amy and I chatting about them while we were in Seattle - I must get Drew to podcast that one soon, and then post our photos. I couldn't get over how Everything about these girl's grown up dolls is interchangeable, and that their favourite ones have been custom painted, making them totally unique!

So as you see, Beth, this could be a perfect place for you to maybe meet a new 'audience' and/or find new collectors, yay.

I'm sorry this welcome got so long -

    Happy sewing,
