    Crunch time

My biggest problem is that I'm a dreamer. Always have been always will be. My dream is have a career as a fantasy artist. I've been hounded at every turn by this. College and uni tutors dimissing it and not supporting me and now I can see those I care about wishing I'd stop dreaming and get a "normal" job.

I do work, I work for a coffee shop restaurant and craft shop. It's in the craft shop that I sell my greeting cards and prints which do ok but it's not reaching my target audience as much as I hoped and the only other shop in my town that specialises in spiritual things are not interested.

So why the sound change in the point of view of the ones who care about me? I'm in serious debt. Student loan debt and the interest is making it go higher. As a result I can't buy the things I used to, Faerie magazine being one of them and I am actually considering selling some of my collectibles but that would have to be a last resort.

So job wise what do I want to do? Well Something creative would be a bonus. There is a lot of talk about creative projects in my town but they are just talks right now. Anything else seems to be a fair way to travel and I'm still learning to drive right now.

I wouldn't mind doing shop work, especial if it was a book shop or something along those lines, especially if it means I could still paint in the evening and have weekends free. At least then I could still hold on to my dream.

    Hi Lindsey,
I know this isn't much consolation but it is tough out there for everyone at the present time. It truly is a shame that fantasy art is not given the recognition it deserves. Believe me when I say - we know. I sincerely hope you can find a way of continuing to develop your art, your own style and take inspiration from those around you. Good luck.

Don't ever stop dreaming Lindsey, you know you have a lot of support over at TSL but don't let others stamp on your dreams.

You may have to find other work for the time being to help pay off student loans etc... but hopefully it will be a job where you have plenty of free time to carry on painting.

Dreaming, it's what keeps us alive, without our dreams we become nothing, we become blank drones and join the masses, hold on to your dreams and be unique
