    Inspiration

    Saturday, February 23, 2008, 1:38 AM [General]

I find it quite amusing how inspiration can strike when you least expect it.

I'm currently in Texas visiting family.  I was playing dress up with my niece, (who is obsessed with fairies like me).  She is the most remarkable girl.  I love her dearly.  I took out my camera and took her picture.  I'm going to use it as a reference.  I've never tried a portrait, but I may save this picture for when I do.

Later in the evening I was chatting with my best friend.  I sat at the computer doodling on a spiral notebook while we chatted.  When we were finished, I looked down and saw that I had started a little elf girl and, for once, I hadn't toiled over the facial features.  So I went ahead and finished her.  I posted the finished product here in my gallery (excuse the lines lol).  Hands and feet are so alien to me.  I can see it in my head, but when I put it to paper, something goes horribly wrong.  I guess that's something I'll need to work on.  For this picture I conveniently placed her arms behind her back.  Hahahaha

Thank you all for the warm welcomes and friend requests.  I look forward to getting to know you all.

    Blessings,  Autumn

    Hoping...

    Thursday, February 21, 2008, 3:56 PM [General]

Hello All!  I decided to join this site to hopefully meet some like-minded individuals.  I think that I'll find them here.

I've found myself floundering for the past few years in my life.  I had this yearning to do something with myself, but no matter what I tried, I wasn't satisfied.  Then I started to write and that helped a little.  I began to draw and that really did something.  I started out with some really iffy pictures.  It had been a long time since I had drawn anything.  I've been working hard at proportion and details.  I've only ever sketched with pencils.  So any other medium out there is completely foreign to me.  So I've begun to collect art books and hope to take some classes soon enough to fine tune my skills.  I need to find the medium that really works for me.  So hopefully I can find that soon.

Anyways, I'd just really like to get to know people and seek out friends who I can chat with and bounce ideas off of and get advice from.

    Blessed Be,

    Autumn

I wish you the best with this new path you are on. This is a great place to meet wonderfully diverse talented people. I am an artist but I also teach art....art classes are a great way to get started and explore new mediums.

If you try watercolour my advice is do not buy the really cheap stuff(i bought a set for under £5 and they were terrible!!)The students ranges are good to start,i used Cotman by Winsor & Newton for cardmaking/craft stuff. I hope to start another painting soon, just trying to get the drawing for it right first! Good luck with your art :)

Hello Autumn, Thanks for the request, pleased to meet you. Do keep drawing and keep posting them! Yeah, hands and feet can be tricky, something I eventually realized is that you have to pay as much attention to them as to the head. Something else that I've found really helpful is "Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain" a fantastic book by Betty Edwards. It's full of really useful exercises and help with problem areas. Looking forward to seeing more! love Julia x
