    "Sunflower Fairy", Original Watercolour Painting.

I've been working on Sales and haven't had too much time for painting although I did manage to finish "The Sunflower Fairy" last week. As well as fantasy art I enjoy painting flowers so this painting was a particular treat to plan and paint.

I wanted to be bold with the background but in the end I ended up using too many colours and I think that this made the background too vibrant and fragmented as well as distracting from the Fairy. I solved this problem by applying a thin glaze of cobalt blue over the entire background. I think that this softened the contrast between the colours and helped make the background less of a feature.

       Painting Details

    • Original Watercolour
    • Paper, Saunders Waterford 200lb watercolour paper
    • Painting Size approx. 43cm by 35cm

Hi Scot, I love your painting. Sunflowers are one of my favourite flowers, I usually plant them all around my cottage every summer . Will keep in contact regarding fairy ball.
    Have a magical weekend

These are beautiful! The glaze of cobalt blue over the background in Sunflower Fairy has worked really well and it's a gorgeous painting.

Another enchanting creature Scot! We have a lot of these faeries here in Kansas (us being "the sunflower state" and all). You've painted her wings just exactly the colours of a prairie summer's sunrise:-)
