About Me:First off, if you'd like to friend me on Facebook: www.facebook.com/TommyGleason
I've been Crafting færies (and other flying things) all my life. Designing/building my own wings from scratch and living my childhood dreams one meter (or a thousand) up.
Originally from inbetween the Monterey/San Francisco Bay Areas, I now live in Rough & Ready, California.
Music:Loreena McKinnett my fave overall. Love lots of others too. "Imagine" has always been my favorite song. "What a Wonderful World" (Louis!) my favorite song of hope. My favorite album: "Moodfood" by Moodswings. Upon hearing this album, it immediately knocked all my top "10s" into #8 spots. I've also been haunted (since a kid) by certain songs... Judy Collins "Farewell to Tarwathie;" Tower of Power's "Sparkling in the Sand;" The Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin;" 10CC's "I'm not in Love;" The Split Enz' "Message to My Girl;" and John Lennon's "Mind Games."
Movies:"Star Wars" and "The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao" immediately come to mind... Lots of others too. Always loved the Sinbad movies featuring Ray Harryhausen's special effects while I was growing up. A recent movie I liked: "Avatar." I loved the echo between the Na'vi and Native American's beliefs. I see the same "Gaia" principle here, the only difference being that while that rock might not look alive to us, it's still an element, part of a synapse so to say, in the Universe's limitless time line. I think this makes sense in that I feel it's ridiculous to assume that "we Humans" are the top life form in a Universe so limitless in matter and awareness. The angels are out there... They belong to Mother Nature though, not religion.
TV:I often wonder why folks put down TV, saying "I don't like THAAT." Well heck, do you dislike bookstore too? Sure, there may be bad trashy books in there, but it doesn't mean you can't find good books as well. TV's the same way. There's plenty of trash, plenty of good stuff! :^) (And folks have no problem listing fave movies...) Anyways, a few of my faves:
PBS: Frontline
Fun: The Chaser's War on Everything
Fantasy: Merlin
Books:"Books are Lighthouses erected in the Sea of Time" - Edwin P Whipple David Eddings: "The Belgariad" and "The Mallorium." Love this guys subtle (and realistic) plugs on religion/politics too.
My favorite spiritual book was by two of my absolute favorite people: Bill Moyers interviewing Joseph Campbell in "The Power of Myth."
Likes:Light. Flight. Drawing Celtic wings for my færies. The rain-harp I made, when rain plinks endless little musical notes upon it. The crystals I've hung all about in the trees outside my window, casting a rainbow of rainbows dancing upon my walls.
Dislikes:I wish folks were more independent of religions. I see pride trapping them into not admitting the horrors in their worship books, and then they try to force the rest of us to abide by their ways.
Hobbies:Photoshop, photography, astronomy☄, geology, history, anthropology (both), linguistics, sewing kites, and gardening all fall in here, but making kids feel treasured beats all of the above.
Vices:Pretending it's too cold / hot outside to go for my bike ride, i.e., Lazy. (Bad Tommy!)
Virtues:Freethought. Critical thinking, because honest truth comes from valid reasoning.
Heroes:Superman. Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Paine. Bill Moyers. Eddie Lama. Sarah McLachlan. Prince Orchar, for his gentle wisdom and generous love for all... May he live on through our love for him. :^)
If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended, That you have but slumber'd here While such visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend: If you pardon, we will mend: And as I am an honest Puck, If we have unearned luck, No to 'scape the serpent's tongue, We will make amends ere long; Else the Puck a liar call; So, good night unto you all. Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends.
May Pardon, Peace and Love, like starry dew

I'm often blown away by how awesome Enchanted Folk are... Tod's kind and thoughtful comments to all, Julie's caring for a lost kitty, Ailynari's unpretentious demeanor while speaking in poetic beauty. Yet in Merrie Fae Tresses' passing, I found Alibear's wonderful poem, which she calls "A Time to Let Go." Do read it if you can in Be's blog. In her touching and eye-opening words I found inspiration to write too (you see how we grow on each other?), loving her thoughts within the word "chrysalis." So please remember that while my poem is original, it wouldn't even exist unless Ali's fresh concept was there to branch off from first...
~ Life, yet unforeseen ~
The other night I dreamt a dream Filled with a life, yet unforeseen!
And in it I found earth and trees... Streams flowing, and buzzing bees
A blue sky above, with clouds puffy Green fields about (that bunny so fluffy)!
And in this life I found such friends... With treasured times that couldn't end
We romped and played and ran about We hugged and kissed and left no doubt
Friends we'd be, this earnest endeavor... Friends we'd be, to last Forever!
But one fine morning I did hear... "Wake up darling!" as She did appear
A Faery Goddess bathed in Light My wee eyes blinking at the sight
"Oh Mom, I dreamt a wonderful dream" "Filled with a life, so unforseen!"
"Yes my darling, and that life did I take, Fore now here you are, wide awake."
You see, that life was but a dream As real as it looked, as real it seemed...
Wrapped as you were in warm covers In a cocoon you slept, you now discover
As while in that dream, you slept so sound A spiritual metamorphosis did abound
Fore while death loomed, it was only a skin A chrysalis opened, your beauty within
Unfolding out now, aglow in your Light... Into faerie heavens... you now take flight. :^)

Tommy, I just re-read your delightful poem again. It makes me think so much of William Blake's SONGS OF INNOCENCE. Thanks for sharing it with all of us!
Oooops! don't know how I missed this....that will teach me to put my glasses on in the mornings before trying to read posts on the computer {{chuckle}}
This is really lovely Tommy, and 'thank you'
for your beautiful comments on my poem.
A most magical experience happened to me today. I was on my daily hike down to the creek. (Some of you have seen a page I put up about it here during the Summer.) Deer creek runs down a gentle ravine with columns of high hills on each side, covered in Oak, Cedar, and Pine. It's a very beautiful place, and I feel the faeries are watching me from the fern covered grottos and mossy clefts as I walk, listening to birds singing and waters tumbling.
Anyways today was overcast, with thick skies just a few thousand feet overhead, and no breezes whatsoever. Then, as I reached the end of the switchback facing West, something absolutely magical happened. It began with a distant whooshing roar of sorts. I looked curiously to the West, wondering if perhaps I was hearing heavy rain coming. Instead though I could see distant tree tops bending towards me, then closer ones, and closer ones. That's when it happened: All of a sudden a huge white dragon came rushing up the ravine to my right level with me, obscuring the hills. Moving incredibly fast, this long, white cloud, uncannily resembling some huge Chinese parade dragon, came rushing by on it's way up the ravine. It was immense and glorious, the wind carrying it suddenly embracing and buffeting me all at once. The air immediately smelled extra wonderful and cold as I instinctively folded my arms about me, gazing at it in stupified astonishment. It was as if the wizard Dumbledoor had just commenced some magical event in the Hogwarts hall! I looked upwards wondering if this would bring rain too, but no, that never came. Just the fresh coolness whipping all about... As I watched, the dragon's tail wisped quickly on by following the rest of it's body, and at the last of that the wind died down, everything returning back to normal.
It was so amazing and I'll never forget it. The magic of nature.
Wow! I have had some curious and magical things happen while walking in the woods, but I have never encountered a dragon. That was an awesome description, I felt like I was right there with you.
I always think of dragons as bringing good fortune :)
What a terrific story, Tommy! There really ARE more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in our philosophy!!! O.K....not OUR philosophy; THEIR philosophy!
I once had a dragon, well what felt like a dragon(hard to explain) come through the clouds on an evening in late summer. Smelling like a fog in the morning, spiraling down towards me with its mouth wide open.As soon as it appeared it vanished, I was on a hill laying in the grass, wasting time, It over took me with feelings and I still can't exactly describe it, I thought briefly, I must be seeing things, but I will never forget it. That was almost ten years ago.
-Interesting-
I never encountered anything like this in my entire life, but it always gives me a warmth feeling to hear the stories of those who do encounter such things. So thank you for sharing :-)

Many centuries before Christmas, the Talmud recorded the Pagan tradition of "Saturnalia" in which the Pagans gave and shared in a holiday spirit to welcome back the Light after Winter Solstice. This honored the god of agriculture, Saturn, knowing the crops would grow with the renewal of light. ("Saturday" is in recognition of Saturn too, though this day didn't get renamed.) So I just think some credit for "Christmas" should go to the Pagan folk too... not to mention mischevous faeries!
Here's a card for all of you Enchanteds... Click to open. :^)
Oh and btw, "Christmas" trees and Mistletoe were borrowed from the Pagans too. The trees are actually described quite well in the Bible - a Heathen practice! >;^)
Tommy, this is grand! I loved it. And I know you & I are about 3 time zones apart, but for some reason, your posts appear later than others (like suddenly in between ones by other people) that I have previously read.
"Silly-con valley" Ha ha love that. Thanks for that comment.
I had wished for a more creative-centered supply and technique sharing group but ended up with a group dominated by an silly psycho invalidator. I am so glad I have Enchanted Folk to come back to!
Hey Tommy, thanks for your lovely comment, Old Man Willow is a particularly beautiful spot, and by all means please feel free to use the photo anywhere you like.
I'm currently working on a collage of old and new pics and doing a piece of music to go with it (you'd almost think I knew what I was doing) when or if I ever get it finished I'll post it.
Paul
Thanks for the kind words, lol about the ale, I didn't notice to move it out of the picture =) I love oak trees so I was going to paint oak leaves around her, I wish I could stick these leaves right on the painting! I am still learning how to paint, but leaves shouldn't be hard.
