    Kitten Love

Imagine you're in a big hardware store, looking for wood. You think you've found the beams you want and lean over to inspect them. Suddenly, right from out of a dark cleft in front of you, a kitten pops out, tail up, mewling, obviously wanting to play! Your surprise turns into a smile, and you fetch a clerk to help you. "Where did this little one come from?" you ask her. She smiles, saying that ferral cats live outside, though one had kittens inside, and that the kittens are obviously quite friendly. "Would you like to keep it?" she asks, and knowing that you've been thinking of getting a kitty recently, your heart quickly says "yes."

So this is "Cali." The Calico. She's actually my neighbor Teri's kitten, though we're like family (I get to see her all the time). Obviously I couldn't resist photographing her, eh? ;^)

Oh and btw, that "heart" pattern on her side? That's no Photoshop trick. It's entirely natural.

The heart: how unusual! I have my once-upon-a-time-kitten right here on the end of my bed. Willow-the-White was also a feral kitten. One of my clients had told me of a MamaCat leading her kitten band out in the snow and there was a white kitten! I'd never had a white one, so I asked the lady if she could catch it. I remember coming to pick up the kitty and he was under a laundry basket cage. Took the tiny white ball home. He slept that night under my neck, trying to nurse!
