About Me:
My family is the center of my life.I am a retired - well, semi-retired - geoscientist. My special area of interest is paleontology; that's what I've mostly worked at through my career. Other interests (the SHORT list): paleoanthropology, spirituality, art, photography, travel, exploring friendships with like-minded people, natural history in general, and taking as many naps as I can get away with.
Music:
Almost everything - but there are definite exclusions. Anything, I guess, that doesn't have a 'jagged' or 'angry' sound to it would probably be fine with me ... unless it's just too sad. I'm an oldie, so naturally I love oldies, but my p-Pod contains such a range of stuff that when I select 'shuffle' I never know what to expect to show up in my ears.
Movies:
I want them to make my face hurt from smiling or my tummy hurt from laughing. And I don't mind crying as long as it's because my old Irish heart is just so warmed that it doesn't know what else to do. Please give me no violence or undue sadness or frustrating unresolvability; reality and our day-to-day news provide an abundance of that, thank you very much. Most recent favorite: "Mamma Mia". I loved it. I did cry.
TV:
Almost none. But I do enjoy the Food Network, British Comedies, certain travel, history, and nature stuff. If it's silly or romantic or interesting, it's good.
Books:
I love to read, but I read slowly - savouring the phraseology and the imagery. So I don't get through many books per year. Visit me on www.goodreads.com to see my (incomplete) list.
Likes:
People who smile. Especially people who smile and then give me a good hug! Also good Louisiana Cookin' ... but I have to take it easy on that these days. And healthy food that is interesting and tasty is almost as good. Road trips and train trips are primo, too.
Dislikes:
The idea held by some that it's important to be important and the idea that it's OK to say you know stuff that no human being could possibly know. And airports - unless I'm there to pick up someone I love.
Hobbies:
art, photography, travel, reading, walking (and that's a fitness thing too), landscape design/gardening, building things
Vices:
NONE WHATSOEVER
Virtues:
NOT ENOUGH SPACE AVAILABLE HERE
Heroes:
Charles Darwin, Charles Lyell, Tony Hillerman, Brian Froud, John D. Mcdonald, Earl Staley, Jesse Jennings, Wylie Poag, James Michener, Henry Linder, Harold Andersen, My Mom and Dad
