Desiree`

    Gender: Female
    Location: South Carolina
About Me: An Artist, a Dreamer, a Lover, a Friend... With my feet firmly planted in the clouds!

    ARTIST:
I'm a Writer, Sculptor & Painter who is lucky enough to be able to leave the business world creating my art business with the time it takes to build it up. Hopefully that will be soon!! Arggghh!!

    DREAMER:
Yeah, big time. Have drawn fantasy as far back as I can remember! I remember wrapping skirts around my hair so I had long hair so I could be a mermaid (when I was 30!!) I would get letters home from teachers that I never focused and was always day dreaming... yesh!! about dolphins & mermaids!!

    LOVER:
I'll never get enough of the ocean, nor the mountains. I'm moody like every good artist tends to be, but I'm not nasty mean!

    FRIEND:
I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, cringe & often grieve at what some humans are capable of; appreciate honesty above all else; have been called naive or clueless a time or two. are we counting? seriously?
    ........................................
Books: I am an avid book reader. This year were Laurel K. Hamilton fairy series, Twilight series, Aragon series.
Love fantasy so much that I've even written a few books, although I've not had the inclination to search for a publisher. I thought the challenge was in the writing, not getting it published! Oh well!! Maybe someday!
Likes: I love to fix & build things, explore, garden... growing my seeds now! love to dance (hawai'ian & tahitian). I toured Europe singing at 16 & short lived band in my 20s. Been too busy with kids, work & the 18yr plan for school till now! Think an older version of 'envogue' would be so cool to start now! My favorite place in the world is the Pacific Ocean along the california coast where all my passions are matched if not overwhelmed.
Dislikes: prejudices of any kind... big time! Don't understand why some have this need to judge others... differences in life make it exciting!
Hobbies: duh! We're artists... ummm going out & earning money?
Vices: crumb... ok, chocolate & procrastination... yup! otherwise I think I'm darn near close to... ok, not perfection, but... ok, I'm a nice person!!

    Swimming with Dolphins

Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 07:10 PM EST [General]

    I am Heartbroken!

My dream of swimming with dolphins has been thoroughly squelched since I found out they are suffering in captivity with the SWTD programs! I honestly thought they came to play with us because they were as intrigued with us as we with them! I thought they had the freedom to come & go! Seeking out the deep blue or food where they desired as their mood dictated!

When I realized (searching for where to have my dream swim) that they were in the middle of the flippin state of Orlando FLA, bells & whistles suddenly blew... yeah, I'm that dumb! So, not only are they NOT free, but to make it worse, they have to cater to hundreds of humans a day! What kind of stress is that to go thru? People constantly wanting to touch them! To have no choice!! I feel horrid!! and a good cry did NOT help! I Just can't support that!

How horrible to realize that the animal I admire most is held in captivity thier whole lives. Did nobody see the real story behind 'Free Willie'? The story of Keiko? How is mankind still so self involved that they fail to see what they do to those we share the earth with? Will we ever be able to learn before we destroy all that makes it so wonderful... and might I add livable? Can we survive our own infancy? Why are humans the only ones who think they own everything and have a right to do what they please no matter the consequences?

So, one huge dream down the tubes... unless I am brave enuff to trust them to be kinder than we are- out in the wild. A dangerous adventure at best since I have also now researched that! They are wild creatures and though curious & often freindly, are also unpredictable! Ya just never know! Thinkin on that, yup... they really don't understand what is dangerous for us, do they? A gentle nudge to them can be quite an impact for a human. And they can get up to 1,100 lbs! Nothing to mess with lightly!

So... Money that would have been spent loving them, swimming with them, Now needs to be used to help them!!

I amsorry that your dreams have been shattered. It is wonderful that you have put ethics before your own ego. YOu are truly a lovely kind spirit and as such you are blessed. There are natural places where you can meet dolphins in the wild , the coast of Cornwall, where I live and also many places in South Africa.
Swim with the dolphins in your dreams.
Sending you pink bubbles of love

I suppose swimming with wild dolphins is a risk taken by both human and dolphin. We are all terribly unpredictable.

I applaud you for putting your dream into compassionate perspective and seeing the big picture. Utilizing your energies & resources to help the dolphins speaks highly of your character and heart. :)
