    New Painting- Above the Sky

Monday, May 25, 2009, 02:16 PM EST [General]

Haven't been on here a while, so I thought I'd make an update. First, I finally got back to painting again, and pictured is my latest piece, Above the Sky, which is a feathered dragon. It took about a month of work, interrupted of course, and it's acrylic on 16x20 inch canvas. Detail-obsessed me, I had to paint each individual feather on the wings, so they took about two days alone to complete; the faded look to the left wing was achieved with transparent washes.

I attended the second Fairy Festival in Wooster, Oh, on April 25, and my next event, weather permitting, will be Coshocton's First Friday, which will be on June 5. I'm not sure what other events I'll attend this year since I have to put most of my time into building my website (can't wait to have it up and running!).

    Dragonling Calendar

Wednesday, December 17, 2008, 01:23 PM EST [General]

After a year of work, the Dragonling Calendar is finished! It is a little late for the 2009 edition, but the calendar will run continuously each year until I retire it, and will switch to the next year in September of every year (example, in September 2009, it will become a 2010 calendar, and so on). It is available on deviantART only for the time being [link], and all calendars there are on sale until Dec. 31. For more information, follow the link.

    Re-post Images

Saturday, December 6, 2008, 03:43 PM EST [General]

I've decided to post some newer versions of my painting images, ones with new and improved watermarks, which means that I'll have to delete and re-upload all my images. I'm probably going to clean out my galleries anyway and remove all the old images, or I'll just put them in a seperate gallery... whatever I decide to do.

For my Dragonling Calendar, I know, it's so late! But it should be done in about a week (hopefully), and it is going to run each year. Basically, starting in September of every year, it will convert into a calendar for the next year (in Sept. 2009 it will become a 2010 calendar). I have January through November done (November will be posted on deviantART sometime in the next few days).

    New Paintings

Thursday, November 20, 2008, 01:38 PM EST [General]

I've been holding out a little while, but I just uploaded six new paintings (well, technically two of them are drawings) on deviantART [link], three of which are from my calendar. I only have to do two more paintings for the calendar, plus a design for the cover, and then it will be done. The November painting is already started, and I'm going to post two sketches of it in my next blog post [link]. I also have other work-in-progress images of some of the other paintings featured there.

In other news, I've also set up an account on Flickr [link] where I'll be posting some of my work that I think represents what I'll be doing more of in the future.

    New Blog!

Saturday, October 11, 2008, 04:40 PM EST [General]

At last, I've finally created an official art blog: jessicarohrartblog.blogspot.com, and I'm very excited about it. It will be strictly art, and I'll use it to post regular updates, sketches, ideas, and works in progress. Updates will be posted every Friday.

For other news, as far as my calendar goes, I just finished August (Roasting Marshmallows) yesterday (Oct. 10), but I'm probably still going to mess with it a little because the dragon looks like the spawn of Satan when it's supposed to look more like a cute little chibi. I'm going to try to have it done in November, but it will be done by December at the latest.

As a last note, I have a new pic to post after all this time: Koi. I did her in ink and colored pencil, but I entered it in the fair before I inked it. It was a lot of fun to do, so I'll probably do more pics like it in the future. I've also gotten more detailed with anatomy, and I based a lot of the musculature on that of an equestrian.
