About Me: Hi, my name is Sandy J. Brooks I was born in September, 1971. I grew up in Ohio & still live here with my Husband Jason, Son Shawn, Daughter Sammy, our dog Memphis & my cat Salem. When I was little I was mostly on my Grandparents farm. I remember that is when I started to connect with the faeries. I would be out in the woods most of the time, spending time playing and seeing a different world there. I started drawing when I was little, I would draw all kinds of little faeries or creatures. My Mother was not very happy about me drawing and I was discouraged from drawing or painting, but I would do it anyway. I couldn’t help it; it was a calling to put them to life. So I would sneak off and hiding in the closet with my note book pad and I would draw all the time. I even drew a world inside the closet. When my Mother found it, she was very upset about my drawing on the walls. When I started school, my favorite subject was Art (of course) and I would look forward to Art class more than anything. To learn as much as possible about drawing and painting was my goal. When I reached middle school, I met the most amazing Art Teacher Miss Kidd. She gave me the courage to keep it up, even if everyone else said it was a waste of time & to get my head out of the clouds. She knew that I did not have a great home life with all the drugs and alcohol that was around and my Mother not being supportive of my desire to draw. That was the first year I received an art award. I then entered the Art Fair and won 1st, 2nd & 3rd and was just blown away. I then entered into the University of Cincinnati Art Show and won an award for gifted student.

I was planning of going to college for Art and then my grandparents past away, I was devastated. They where the only people who loved me for who I was. I then got married too young to a person who was very violent and had a child. I then took my child and left and went to school, at first for Art. I then had to change to something that would not take as long, so I went into Law Enforcement and became a Deputy Sheriff. All along the calling was still there, I would sit and doodle in my patrol car or anywhere. I then had my daughter my muse; she, my son and my Husband Jason are my inspiration to follow my dreams of becoming a professional artist. I would draw or paint on the weekends or when I got home from work. I guess my destiny was greater; I was at work one day and was injured in the line of duty. I was almost killed by a prisoner who was trying to escape, but his plan didn’t work. I am still here and he is still in prison. I am no longer able to work in Law Enforcement and am now a full time Professional Artist.

More than anything I just want to say that, I am blessed for the second chance at life and to spend everyday drawing, painting, loving, meeting new friends and seeing the magical gifts that the Faeries bring to me.

May you be blessed by the Faeries!

    Light & Love,
    Sandy

What a super-cool biography you put in your column. After reading about all that discouragement, I was saying "Right On!!" when I read of your becoming a deputy sheriff. Reading of this (and your art teacher) is just more proof that many of us can do it too.

    You are very encouraging!

I love what you wrote for your status, about how an Artist dips his brush in his own soul... that is really very profound, and so very, very accurate!! Peace and Blessings!!
