    A Midsummer Night's Dream

    Monday, April 4, 2011, 11:57 AM [General]

After a long month of struggling to get painting, I've finally finished a piece!. I suppose every artist goes through a phase where no matter how hard you try you just can't paint, think of an idea and just struggle getting a piece done. I actually hope I'm over it now and you will all see much more paintings in the future:).
So here it is, my new piece: A Midsummer Night's Dream!
11X17 Watercolour and some white gouache for highlights.

    Some up close shots

So I decided to take some W.I.P shots, just to show you all how I get to one spot to another, personally, I love looking at other artists w.i.p, everyone works differently and it's just fun to see.

Pencil sketch on Arches watercolour board. It was my first time working on watercolour board, I really liked it, not good for doing sketches on first though, I don't think the paper holds too well.
Sorry for the lousy picture, I had to darken these as the sketches are very light when I do them.
My messy table and my first splash of paint.
I decided to work my way around the outside first then working in, the last to be worked on would be the people, since they are my favorite to paint.
again, my messy table, I just finished the tree trunk here. My favorite mug is in this shot...it's for camping but I use it all the time, keeps my tea nice and hot for hours(which is great because I always forget about my tea until I'm done painting), I love it!
just a closer shot and I painted the bushes at the bottom of the painting. This is where I stopped taking pictures 'cause really, I just wanted this done....love it but I was ready to work on something else.
This is getting used for the poster in this years Enchanted Ground Festival:) you can find out more info on the festival here: www.faeryfest.com I'm looking forward to this years festival! I know it's going to be amazing and I miss doing festivals and art shows!! the season is ready to begin and I can't wait:)

    Beautiful Poems

    Tuesday, November 16, 2010, 2:48 PM [General]

I recently got emailed some poems by a wonderful person named David Smith who was inspired by my work, I thought they were just amazing and I wanted to share:)

    Auri

She’s a tale retold a dream once dreamt and is how such fables born.
A wide-eyed nymph and wingless fairy her crown adorned with horns.
Truly seed of Pan and child of man among the wild she'll roam.
Watchers sheathed in bronze and cloaked in emerald they tend her playground home.
Deep and dark or warm and bright tis the real of make believe.
From mirrored pools are spell bound souls upon her back they'll leave.
Those kingdoms perched beyond the trees within are waiting maids.
The kiss banished curse to her lost prince another ending saved.
May the rest made wish find you out to walk enchanted woods.
And through lost ways she'll be your guide till thy stories understood.

    Rhoslyn and the Unicorn

Once was ruled beyond known lands a kingdom great and vast.
Near mountains topped with ageless ice and rivers deep and fast.
Here the unending forest was shared between real and fantasy.
Man took his place but nothing more he let what nature be.
A garden draped around a castle whose walls were high and white.
Flowed from the village trade and music from dawn past dusk’s twilight.
In remembrance names carved in stones made up the castle road.
Where those in faith and those of magic could spread what they forebode.
A contest private once was held between majesties domains.
To join as pet or join the wild and keep what may remain.
Say what part fate has played that crossed each other’s realm.
The winner is the tale that’s told till the other’s overwhelmed.
Said first was the princess fair her story innocent and true.
When as a youth all was strange, wondrous and new.
The royals’ daughter danced among the flowers as they bloomed.
To her dress were floral pedals that blessed her with perfume.
Coax she did the butterflies to rest upon her finger.
And sing with birds and roll in grass was how the child lingered.
Chasing once a darting rabbit in his home deep underground.
Stuck she sobbed her cries were heard thankful to be found.
Reached she could not far in the hole as tiny as a child.
A crowd gathered round the hidden den in the flowers growing wild.
All efforts made but none knew how to free her from the den.
From solders, priests, wise and strong twas beyond the feats of men.
Near the woods a creature watched at the closest garden tree.
Under flower cover approaching cautious so she could also see.
Over the edge she peered in the gloom a face looked sadly up.
“Fear not.” the fairy spoke in song as she tossed a buttercup.
The gathered fairy swarmed above the hair’s home hither low.
Diving in with twinkling chimes shown a crystal brilliant glow.
As if of China they lifted her up then placing her down gently.
The king gratefully bowed and humbly thanked each petit fairy.
“ The turn is yours,” Rhoslyn said to the unicorn.
Laying at her side with its fine coat and a spiraling golden horn.
“Dear queen, such tale of sweet young age, whilst mine's of later years.
Of service to a mystic man who was not whom he appears.”
Recited were his travels far with this mortal stranger.
Into sinful lands of greed and lust and never ending danger.
Upon his back draped water skins that burdened the mythic beast.
They returned through a town once seen where music never ceased.
Upon a palace the two went in that was hid behind a gate.
Hoping for a place to rest and eat for the hour had grown late.
On a gilded throne it’s master wept his servants hung their head.
Begging that his life should come to pass and once again be dead.
His troubled spirit spoke to the stranger, “Free me from this curse.
No longer blind or sick or poor I am but from paradise that’s worse.”
Saying, “We give in ways and receive unaware of what we've got.
You bathed my eyes so I can see and I saw what I should not.
You cleansed my hands and with them made ill-gotten hoards of wealth.
You cleaned my body and made me fair to all and to myself.
Twas you that cost me paradise so perfect and serene.
When I'm given back my princely life into a world unclean.
My greed and lust and selfishness have fled my soul away.
How better is the want than have is all that’s left to say.”
His words were laced with a magic touch of eloquence and charm.
He spoke first of unintended consequences meant to cause no harm.
Of sight restored to one made blind but still won't see the light.
Of disease and hurt his beauty fixed but grope to do what’s right.
Of the rich once broke his squandered wealth but not upon the poor.
Of death conquered though he lives to beg for the grave once more.
The hearts desire leads the way to where our paths can cross.
It’s when dreams and wants become obsession then reality is lost.
An illusion is the life that’s lived and all things in between.
For the dream need not the dreamer but the dreamer needs the dream.
We are the wish and secret wants the greater and the slight.
Tis the shadows dancing with my kind in dreams we play all night.
For what is true was imagined tis how all things must start.
He said, “I took your bet knowing well what lies within your heart.
As were the rules the winner shows how the realms may touch.
Your time was once, mine forever, though noticed not as much.”
Unaware the transformation she submitted to his trance.
Along a path walked unicorns to never backward glance.
A distant kingdom still remains though absent of its queen.
To mark forever’s familiar’s edge and that which waits unseen

Yes, I have been busy, too....a good kind of busy :) We are having a particularly beautiful Spring here where I live this year. We have had cooler weather and more rain than usual so the flowers are going crazy! (In this part of CA it's pretty dry and hot, so, cooler, rainy weather is a good thing to us!!)
