This poem just came to me.beleive it or not i was looking at a sultry Jessica Galbreth painting when this came into my head!It doesn't have a title yet,any suggestions??

    She hid her sultry eyes

    And put away her charms

    A cover on the light

Of self that shone so bright

    Of herself she left

    A shadow of what was

    What once sparkled

    Now hidden in the gloom

    A distant memory

    The echo of herself

Let's hope she finds a guide

    A beacon in the dark

Or else she may fade away

    A whisper on the wind.

This is beautiful. It makes me a little sad, but also it's hopeful.
You say you are not a poet, yet your poetry is as moving and creative as many "professionals" I have encountered.

    Non Faerie related poetry

Wednesday, November 28, 2007, 09:59 PM GMT [Poetry]

I am not a poet although i like poetry. This came into my mind this evening,it is not faerie related but i thought i'd share. My bit of angst!

                            FLICKER

    Flicker
I see it once, and then it's gone
I think I have imagined it
I tell myself it was not there
    Not to look for it

But I should have read the signs
    Portents in the sky
Should have felt the warning in my bones
    The whisper ‘not mine'

    Flicker
In the corner of my mind
    It did not lie
    I chose to be blind

    I cannot win this fight
    I've seen it lost before
    Wanted to deny the truth
But there's no denying what's in your eye
    As they meet not mine

    You share a look
    Not for me
    I feel I am intruding
    I should have seen

    Wishing for a life
    That could not be mine
    I won't live a lie
I will burn bright or not at all

    So I walk away
The candle flame flickers back to life
    Mine blown out
    I leave with no goodbye
It is me that has flickered out
    Out of time
    I am out of time

But you ARE a poet! This is lovely. Like the beautiful lyric of a sad song. Somehow I want to hear it sung. I don't suppose you write music, too?

    Advice Please!

Monday, October 8, 2007, 02:26 PM GMT [General]

Does anyone have any advice on how to get over creative blocks?I never used to have this problem but for years now i find it so hard to draw/paint.I can do other creative things no problem, just find it hard to do what i want most!Has any one else experienced this.or am i just odd?!!Help!
    0 (0 Ratings)

Well If i can throw in my two cents sarah. There are allot of reasons for blocks. Stress complicated life etc etc.......... But there is allot of fun ways to get aound it. Also magical ways. Heres some fun things i do.
1.I work late at night. Just seems creativity flows at night. I dont remember who said "I write at night because nobody is awake to use the good ideas. "
    2. Meditation works great. quiets the soul.
    3. Simply ask for the universe foran inspiration. Imagine yourself doing your art with your closed eyes. Feel the process of creating and chances are a project will pop into your head and it will be the exactproject you should be doing.
    4. Now this for believers only. I open a window. No matter how cold and i leave a little food and drink on the ledge. next to candle. That way the muse knows shes welcome.
4.Ask exactly what you want from the universe out loud. Speak your future into being. but speak in clear positive words. and think about exactly what you are asking.
Any one of these of approaches works for me.
    5. And finally if all else fails. Just sart a project gatherthematerials and go. Dont worry that you dont know what your going to do. It will come to you.
Wild adevice i know but it works. Hope this helps

A few things that help me if I'm feeling blocked (though it can depend on what is causing the block, i.e. stress or something):
    1. Sometimes I just look through art books of the old masters, or surf the net looking at art sites, or go to galleries and look at other peoples work (but NOT worry that mine might not be as good...just different. We all have the right to create). Seeing the different techniques people use can get me going again.
    2. Sometimes I just play with paint - like childlike play, just drop ink onto damp paper and watch it spread; or drop coloured inks on dry paper and spray it lightly with a plant water-sprayer and watch the effects; or put drops of ink/wet poster paint on paper and blow them with a straw to see what shapes happen...can make some good tree shapes:)
    3. It can help to try a new technique just as an experiment.
    4. Doing some other relaxing craft helps me too - I like cross-stitch and needlepoint.
    5. Going for a walk or cycle ride in nature (I'm very grateful that I live in the countryside), or doing some gardening.
    6. Sometimes I just have to wait patiently for the muse to come back to me and try not to worry...
I hope some of this helps...sometimes what I call "painting energy" has to gestate for a while. Like a seed growing.

sarah i go through the same thing often, i think every artist does i would be surprised if any didn't actually.
Usually when i mess up something i have been
working on for a while ..blocks me.
What i do is try something different for a while and try and out away whatever it was that bothered me.

Stress is a very big factor,i tend to worry a lot.

Inspirations come back slowly, i open up
some art books, look at some beautiful art i admire, listen to favorite music do something relaxing and then i get unblocked :)

Don't worry it will pass everyone goes through this.

    *hugs*

    Hey Sarah,

I know how you feel too, I think as Kat said, all artists suffer from this at times it is part of the process especially if you have been creating a lot.

I think the worst thing you can do during a block is to put more pressure on yourself - it doesn't help at all and the best thing to do is what you find relaxing and maybe connect with nature, or do anything you enjoy and the inspiration comes back.

Hi Sarah, we agree with you, it is a beautiful book and as Brian said to me last week, you could also use it as a door stop as it's heavy enough - how's that for a self deprecating artist!
I also know ;) that the Autumn issue of Faerie Magazine International has a wonderful feature on it too, plus we know from the lovely man himself, that Brian's doing a book signing this weekend at the London Forbidden Planet store (that's one of Drew, and our eldests, favourite shops to hang in) - they're finally getting a good range of faerie books in now too thanks to our encouragement!
Enjoy the Treasure, it was a long journey...
