About Me:Evil, wicked, mean and nasty – NOT! Well, maybe a little bit wicked, but only in the very best way. I’m a beautiful, talented, funny, kind and wonderful…Faerie Witch! A solitary practitioner of The Craft, I am drawn to ethereal nature spirits such as The Fae; but I also study and incorporate many other traditional and non-traditional elements in my eclectic workings, including Green (or Natural) Witchcraft.
I believe in faeries — what do you believe?

This is the 3D me. Make your own, and we both get Coinz!
For me, the practice of Witchcraft is the freedom to commune directly with Divinity. I do not want or need a go-between in order to experience the Divine. I believe in the Goddess, God and the All-In-One from which all came, comes and will return, but I do not believe in Satan or the Devil. The concept of the Devil is purely a Christian concept. As a practitioner of the Craft, I acknowledge, accept and value the existence of both light and dark, life and death, and know that one does not exist without the other, but I do not believe in Heaven or Hell. I believe in reincarnation and karma; I believe that matter can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be transformed; and I believe in the teachings of Jesus, but I don’t accept what has been done or created in his name. I support the right of every individual to seek spirituality as they see fit, but I don’t accept anyone’s assertion that their way is the only and right way to approach Divinity.
My way works for me; it doesn’t work for everyone and I don’t expect it to. Through Witchcraft, I am actively striving to bring more love and support into my life and to bring more love and support into the lives of others. It’s my hope that, once you get to know me and learn more about The Craft, you will see that Witch only accidentally rhymes with bitch!
I’m also a retired civilian Contract Negotiator for the US Navy. There could not have been a better job for a woman, in my opinion — spending other people’s money (and spending it wisely, too)!! My expertise was in the field of research and development, first for submarine technology and then simulation and training technology (really cool stuff, the kind of stuff that ends up in hi-tech video games). But in all seriousness, I am very proud of our Troops and know the research efforts I supported makes their lives and unfortunate duties safer. I retired in May of 2006 as a result of the debilitating effects of Hereditary Angio Edema (if you want to know more about this life-threatening condition, please click here; you can help support the HAE community financially without spending a penny just by using the GoodSearch search engine (click here) and entering "HAE" when asked who you search for). So I finally have oodles of time to read for pleasure and spirit, and have added four more bookshelves to house my growing metaphysical treasure-hoard and resources. I'm increasing my knowledge of herbs and oils, creating my own potions and lotions, soaps and scents, incense and candles, jewelry and art. I love children; especially other people's children. I decided at an early age not to have children (am I the only one who remembers the "population explosion?") because of my HAE, so I play "mother" to three adorable Yorkshire Terriers (and for a few years I was a Girl Scout troop leader with 2 of my also childless girl friends – it was just the closest we could get to being Grandmothers – spoiled them rotten, got them hyped up and messy, then sent them home for their parents to deal with!). My 3 surrogate four-legged children, Mindy, Teddie and Mickey, have been more than enough to keep my hands full and fill my life with an incredible amount of joy (and strenuous brushing!):
Music:My current (and most “witchy”) favorites, played as loudly as possible while driving (and I confess to singing along): ♥Steeleye Span; ♥Celtic Women; ♥Loreena McKennitt; ♥Woodland; ♥Wendy Rule; ♥Blackmore's Night; ♥Qntal; ♥I Ching; ♥Troika
Movies:♥A Knight's Tale (so funny!); ♥Aeon Flux (luv strong female characters); ♥Amadeus (wonderful look at the madness of genius); ♥The Banger Sisters (Alice is Susan Saranden - beige; I'm Goldie Hawn - twinkly!); ♥Being There (hysterical!); ♥Blade I and II (I want that leather coat!); ♥Braveheart (brave and heart-felt); ♥Breakfast's at Tiffanys (lovely, so lovely); ♥Cabaret (Liza's eyes are mesmerizing)
♥Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (I dream like this - flying and leaping); ♥The Dark Crystal (delightful); ♥Devine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (this could be my circle of friends); ♥Edward Scissorhands (poignant); ♥Fightclub (unbelievably great plot twist); ♥The Full Monty (every man needs to walk on the wild side at least once); ♥The Joy Luck Club (as soon as I see the swan feather before the opening credits, I start crying and I don't stop until the closing credits roll - so cathartic); ♥Laura Croft - Tomb Raider and Cradle of Life (go Jolie!)
♥The Lion in Winter (life was probably really like this); ♥LOTR - all three (beautiful sets, costumes and actor choices - finally!); ♥The Matrix (the next day I was still going "huh?" - sometimes I'm slow); ♥My Fair Lady (Audrey is just ethereal); ♥Pirates of the Caribbean (only Depp could make scurvy look desirable!); ♥Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (I've never wanted to grow up to be a drag queen so much!); ♥The Princess Bride (how could you not like someone named Buttercup?); ♥Run Lola Run (this is my favorite foreign film; you've got to rent it)
♥Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (I resisted this for years and I’m really sorry I did – it’s a jewel; you will need a working knowledge of Hamlet); ♥The Sixth Sense (fooled me); ♥Underworld (great premise); ♥Van Helsing (nice action flick); ♥What Dreams May Come (reality is what you make it)
TV:The TV is seldom on anymore, except to watch DVD movies, the Independent Film Channel, Turner Classic Movies, and Fox Movie Channel. If a happy accident occurs and the TV and I are "on" at the same time, I like to watch: ♥Confessions of a Matchmaker; ♥Ghost Whisperer; ♥Hex; ♥House; ♥Kathy Griffin My Life on the D-List; ♥LA Ink; ♥Law & Order Criminal Intent reruns (I think I just may have developed a crush on Vincent D'Onofrio)
Books:I'm an avid reader. I moved around a whole lot during my childhood and even though I made friends easily, books were the friends that moved with me!
I love books that make me laugh, like:
♥The "Discworld" series by Terry Pratchett; ♥The "Hitchhiker's Guide" series by Douglas Adams; ♥The "Myth" series by Robert Asprin; ♥The "Xanth" series by Piers Anthony; ♥The "Southern Vampire Mysteries" series by Charlaine Harris

Frank Baum; ♥The "Nancy Drew" series by Carolyn Keene; ♥The "Hardy Boys" series Franklin Dixon; ♥The "Trixie Belden" series by Kathryn Kenny; ♥"Watership Down" by Richard Adams; ♥The "Redwall" series by Brian Jacques; ♥The "Dragonriders of Pern" series by Anne McCaffrey

And then there are the current titles made for children that delight children of all ages: ♥The "Harry Potter" series by J.K. Rowling; ♥The "A Series of Unfortunate Events" series Lemony Snickett; ♥"Inkheart" and "Inkspell" by Cornelia Funke; ♥"The Spiderwick Chronicles" by Holly Black; ♥The "Artemis Fowl" series by Eoin Colfer

You may think the following books were written only for, by and about women, but men love them, too (and are required reading if they ever want to become a Spud Stud), and are so funny you will spit tea on the pages as you read them (if you are a tea drinker, that is, although margarita drinkers are also welcome, as you will see): ♥”The Sweet Potato Queens’ Big-Ass Box of Love” by Jill Conner Browne; ♥”The Sweet Potato Queens' First Big-Ass Novel: Stuff We Didn't Actually Do, but Could Have, and May Yet” by Jill Conner Browne; ♥”The Sweet Potato Queens' Wedding Planner/Divorce Guide” by Jill Conner Browne; ♥"The Sweet Potato Queens' Field Guide to Men: Every Man I Love Is Either Married, Gay, or Dead” by Jill Conner Browne; ♥”Bless Your Heart, Tramp: And Other Southern Endearments” by Celia Rivenbark; ♥”Stop Dressing Your Six-Year-Old Like a Skank: And Other Words of Delicate Southern Wisdom” by Celia Rivenbark; ♥”SWAG: Southern Women Aging Gracefully” by Melinda Rainey Thompson; ♥”Being Dead is No Excuse: The Official Southern Ladies Guide to Hosting the Perfect Funeral” by Gayden Metcalfe; ♥”Someone is Going to Die if Lilly Beth Doesn’t Catch That Bouquet: The Official Southern Ladies Guide to Hosting the Perfect Wedding” by Gayden Metcalfe. So, always remember to...
♥Eats & Drinks: I love herbal tea (also known as tisane) and these are my favorites: ♥From Simpson & Vail, I adore any of their fine tisanes, which you will find under Tea - Herbals - Blends, and I especially recommend Moonlight in the Garden and Verry Berry. The Banana Rooibos is excellent and the Rootbeer Rooibos is fantastic iced.
♥From Tea Gcshwendner, I like to prepare these loose leaf teas using a French coffee press: Under Fruit Tea, try Sensual Affair, Mr. Ollivander’s Magic Potion, or Fireside Glow; under Rooibush, try the Rooibush Cream Caramel
♥From Mountain Rose Herbs , where you will find the best quality and best priced herbs available, you will also find the most delicate and beautiful tea I have ever found, fabulous hand-sewn flowering teas produced in remote tea gardens in the southwestern Yunnan province of China; you’ll want to brew these teas in a glass tea pot to watch the tea ball unfurl.
Dislikes:People who are intolerant of the rights of others, people who are incompetent in their work, people who are lazy, and people who hurt others intentionally (which includes rape, incest, murder, bullying, genocide, shaking babies, and verbal abuse, just to name a few acts I find egregious).
Hobbies:♥If you want to read what I think is the best treatise on the subject of Wicca, you need to pay a visit to Wicca for the Rest of Us; stop the fluff, think for yourself, fight the bunny!
♥I hope you will drop by my two WordPress blogs (the first is just for fun and giggles, the second is where I'm flexing and re-training my writing “muscles”):
♥Scents & Such: When you just want the best, these are my faves: At Patchouli Garden, you will find the most fantastic incense, body spray and roll-on oil fragrances available anywhere
♥The Unique Boutique has the best collection of smoking pillars, both wood and soapstone, for burning stick incense; beautiful pieces of art that safely burn incense with no messy ash residue – and at great prices, too.
♥My favorite online source for candles and body butter is Pacifica; herbs, florals, fruits, spices, and woods and resins; their fragrance line is delightful.
♥For good quality and a wide selection at a good price, the best aromatherapy website is One Planet Aromatherapy
Vices:I am, and this is putting it kindly, a horrendous cook, so here are my favorite eateries: ♥Carrabba’s Italian Grill, there isn’t anything on their menu I haven’t tried and I haven’t absolutely loved (well, okay, I don't love their pizza; give me good old Pizza Hut any day!); I could live on their vegetables alone; best chain restaurant ever
♥Longhorn Steakhouse, right now they have a margarita made with pomegranate that is to die for (almost!)
♥Flying Fish Café, at the Disney Boardwalk, get hooked on the fabulous fish and sizzling steaks at this restaurant featuring creative cuisine
♥La Coquina, at the Orlando Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, is 5 star dining at its best; dinner is 7 courses; Sunday brunch is non-traditional, set up in the chef’s kitchen, and (of course) the champagne flows continuously; the dining area overlooks Lake Windsong, complete with beautiful swans; tres romantique
♥Jewelry: I adore handmade jewelry and one of the greatest artisans that I've ever found is the marvelous Sharon Kovalcsik and her "Make Me Smile" shop on www.Etsy.com (under sellers:usernames, search for Sharonk1420 to sample her incredible creations); you can also reach her at (423)386-4174 and Sharonk1420@etsy.com
Virtues:♥Tarot: My favorite tarot deck is the Mystic Faerie Tarot (of course!). To see copies of the beautiful artwork and read an excellent review, click here.
♥The best site for reviews of tarot decks and viewing sample cards is JanetBoyer.com, hands down.
♥To protect your decks with the finest bags and cases available at decent prices, visit Tarot Totes; I highly recommend the marbled cotton embroidered bags (the detailed artwork is stunning) and the padded cases (superb workmanship).
Heroes:My maternal grandmother, Vivian, is my greatest hero! She is absolutely fearless and my best friend; she's also wickedly gorgeous!
Actresses: ♥Audrey Hepburn (epitomy of grace and refinement; ♥Katharine Hepburn (tough as nails, no two ways about it; "gumption"); ♥Kathy Griffin (she is just too damn funny!); ♥Angelina Jolie (even before she married Brad and adopted every kid in the world, this woman was an original)
Actors: ♥Cary Grant (funny and sophisticated); ♥Sean Connery (has stood the test of time and aged well); ♥Johnny Depp (artistically pure and uncompromising; wonderfully weird); ♥Keifer Sutherland (deeply wounded spirit; I think he needs me)
Historical Figures: ♥Boudicea (she may not have won the war, but she stepped up when her man died and whupped Roman ass in some pretty tough battles); ♥Eleanor of Aquitaine (one of the wealthiest and most powerful women in Europe during the High Middle Ages); ♥Mary of Magdalene (no matter what you believe her true historical role to be during and after the life of Jesus of Nazareth, there's no disputing that this lady wasn't sitting at home in meek seclusion doing needlepoint); ♥Jesus of Nazareth (setting the issue of deity aside, his message -- when stripped of all the elaborations and interpretations heaped upon it over the centuries -- is so pure and true that it resonates with the core of all paths to spiritual enlightenment); ♥Ghandi (another man with a simple message effectively delivered through non-violent means); ♥Leonardo Da Vinci (a man born far ahead of his time, an unequivocable genius)
Even though I have mega-tons of supplies begging to be made into faerie pouches and bags and books, and even more begging to be made into jewelry, am I busily cutting, sewing, coiling, and linking? Oh, no, not me. I’m off on another tangent entirely. It’s not a new tangent, by any means, but one that has been percolating in my busy one remaining brain cell for quite some time. Ever since I made my last Flower Faerie Kat, in fact.
This is a Goddess image I made out of air dry clay back in the days when I didn’t need a high powered magnifying glass to see what I was doing.
She can be removed from her stand for use during meditation and a variety of other purposes, some magical in nature. Mostly she’s used in her stand as a altar statue.
For a long time I’ve wanted to combine aspects of this image with aspects of Faery. So this past week I began to put my idea into a concrete form. Here is the beginning of a new Goddess image in polymer clay (she’ll have a stand, too):
Although I have never met or discoursed with a faerie that has wings, I’m still attuned to the image (brought to us courtesy of the Victorian Age) of faeries wings because they reflect the lighter aspects of nature –- butterfly, dragonfly, and bird wings being most common. To me they represent freedom, the striving for enlightenment and the achievement of pure spirituality –- and I rather think that the last is what Christian artists were thinking, too, when they gave angels the wings of birds.
So I am going to give my Goddess figure faerie wings. In fact, I wanted to make an entire collection of Faerie Goddess figures, and what better symbol to base my first collection upon than the Faerie Star?
Each Faerie Goddess will have the faerie star over her belly instead of the traditional spiral, and the ancient symbol for her point of the star upon her breast. Part of her lower body will be in the color corresponding to that point, as will the wings, which will be done in various different techniques and embellishments.
Here’s the breakdown:
Faerie Goddess of the Sun
Color: Gold Stones: Yellow/Honey Calcite, SunstoneDescription: Apart from the obvious Fire elemental symbolism, there is a more specific symbolism relevant to the faerie star. The Sun is the primary sustaining force of life on Earth. Without it, faerie, human, animal and plant life as we know it would not exist. This point seeks attunement of spirit with life sustaining energy sources. Symbol: These links are to posts of this work in progress:
Color: Green Stones: Rainbow Fluorite, Moss Agate Description: Most faerie folk feel a deep connection to forests and woods in general. Trees are considered kin, cousins and brothers. Faeries and elves can see secrets hidden in the branches of trees, and understand the speech, power and nature of trees and woods. This point also contains Earth elemental symbolism and seeks attunement of spirit towards plant energy sources. Symbol:
These links are to posts of this work in progress:
Color: Blue Stones: Aquamarine, Ocean Jasper Description: Many of the faerie folk also have a connection to the sea, and Water elemental powers are naturally very strong. About 70% of the surface of our planet is covered with water, and the oceans play an intimate role in weather and climate, as well as erosion. It’s force is inestimable and violent in the extreme when unleashed. This point seeks attunement of spirit with the energy of the sea. Symbol:
Faerie Goddess of Magic
Color: Purple Stones: Amethyst, Charoite Description: Magic is integral to the lives of all faerie folk, whether it be the simple but profound magic of a snowflake or the more involved magic of rhymes, runes, visions, and such. It is not only a matter of understanding magic, but of living magic. This point seeks attunement of spirit with living a magical life. Symbol:
Faerie Goddess of the Moon
Color: Silver Stones: Moonstone, Labradorite Description: As the sun is responsible for sustaining our existence, the moon is responsible that we are here at all. It is the moon that keeps the Earth in it’s tilted position and orbit; without it’s gravitational tug, the precise conditions (light, heat, oceanic movement vs stagnation, etc.) required for life to begin would never have occurred. Consider how different Earth would be without the moon to light the dark night skies, to affect the ocean and tides that in turn affect the weather, and to work her magical and physiological effects upon humans, animals and plants. Life as it exists on Earth now is due directly to the moon. This point seeks attunement of spirit with life giving energy sources. Symbol:
Faerie Goddess of the Wind
Color: Yellow Stones: Celestite, Turquoise Description: Many faerie folk have a strong connection to the wind and Air elementals in general. It is the very essence of weather and it provides the gases every land-based creature requires for survival. At the same time, it helps disburse much of the world’s germinated plant life. It’s symbol means, “May the four winds from the four corners of the world upon you gently blow.” This point seeks attunement of spirit with the wind and sky. Symbol:
Faerie Goddess of Connection
Color: Iridescent White Stones: Rhodonite, Clear Calcite Description: The faerie folk embody the concept of connection–connection to one’s self, to others, the world, the land, reality, magic, and the universe. This point seeks attunement of spirit towards conscious awareness of the connectedness of all seven points together. Symbol:
Here is a new poem written for my Auntie Betty and “published” in the handmade suede journal I created for her. Now that she has had the opportunity of reading it first, it is ready to share with you!
MY HOUSE FAERIES
The other night I chanced to hear A scuffle going on quite near.
The sounds weren’t very loud at all, But did sound like some kind of brawl.
I looked around my room to see Just what on earth the noise could be.
I closed my eyes and concentrated, The fighting still had not abated.
Was that a yelp that I just heard, A clash of swords? Oh, how absurd!
Now without the aid of eyes, I let my ears become my spies.
Quickly realization spread; It came from underneath my bed!
There behind the bed’s dust ruffle Was going on a mighty scuffle.
All my brownies and house elves To the teeth had armed themselves.
The enemy were (the mere thought sickens) Dust bunnies grown as big as chickens.
Each had two beady eyes, redly glowing, And two long yellow teeth, still growing.
They really were a gruesome sight, And not at all inclined to be polite.
Encouraging our side to do their best, I lay back down to get some rest.
I had no doubt by break of day, Those dust bunnies would be cleared away By my faithful, dust bunny-eating fae.

My short story, "The Secret Hollow," is officially published in ink!
I received an email awhile back from Casey Quinn, editor of the on-line magazine, Short Story Library, that their long-awaited anthology, The Library's Best: Volume I, is now available on Amazon.
I immediately purchased a copy for my Grandmother, who doesn't have access to the Internet, and brought it to her on my first trip out of state since I became so depressisngly ill; she was so thrilled. Heck, I was thrilled to see my story in print! This is my first piece published in old fashioned ink and paper since I was in college, and those pieces ended up in scholarly tomes I'm sure will emerge from under the 8" of dust they must surely be burred under by now.
I gave my story nongratis to the Short Story Library, so please consider purchasing a copy yourself to support the website and other fledgling authors.
