    About Me:
    members.enchantedfolk.com/faeryspellcreations.enchantedfolk.com
I grew up and currently reside in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I am inspired to create my Faeries and mythic creatures though my fascination with the ancient lore and legends of the Faerie People of all lands.

My artistic inspiration comes from Nature, first and foremost.

I also love and greatly respect the work of artists such as Brian and Wendy Froud, Alan Lee, Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac.

In addition to these, my inspiration as a doll artist comes from my love of old world dolls and old fashioned marionettes. I love the quality of a doll being doll-like, and yet seeming as if it could come to life at any moment. I believe this influence shows in my work, and is a part of what makes my dolls unique.

My dolls truly seem to me to form themselves--I am only the medium. They emerge from the clay, each with his or her own distinct features and personality--they are always a surprise to me!

I began FaerySpell Creations to share them with others, (and because I couldn't seem to stop making them and they had begun to take over every available shelf and nook and cranny in my house! :)

FaerySpell dolls are meant to capture the faery as archetype, and details such as horns, fur, feathers, leaves flowers and other natural elements are incorporated into them.

They are lovingly handcrafted with no molds used of any kind, (as such there are slight irregularities to each one that add to their uniqueness).

My faeries and mythic dolls are a work of magic, and it is my experience that each chooses their own 'home'

FaerySpell Creations is a member of Fantasy OOAK Creations, ADSG,Global Fantasy Dolls, and Elfwood. She is also the proud winner of the May 2005 Froudian Artist Award, and Fantasy OOAK Creations Artist of the Week Spotlight, and Global Fantasy Dolls 2007 Competition Award.

    Melissa Fairy

Tuesday, February 2, 2010, 07:01 PM EST [General]

The origin ofthe name Melissa comes from the ancient Hittite word Melita which means honey. The meaning of the word has shifted into honey bee in Greek.

Moreover, the pronunciation has changed to Melissa (Ionic Greek: M???ssa).
In Greek mythology, perhaps reflecting Minoan culture, Melissa raised the infant Zeus in Crete, nursing him with goat's-milk (see Amalthea) and honey. In later myth she was given a father, Melissus of Crete.

Melissa also refers to the plant known as lemon balm (family Lamiaceae; genus and species Melissa officinalis).

Melissa is entirely handsculpted and hand painted. Her gown is created from vintage and designer fabrics, lace, ribbon and silk flowers. Her body is a wrapped wire armature, so she is gently poseable.

You can see more about Melissa, and my other one of a kind fairies and costuming, in my shop at:

Thank you for sharing my world! :)
