I finally got up off my butt and went searching for the Witches Brew coffee house. I found out that it's halfway between my home and my school, so on the days when I have five hour breaks between classes, I can just drive right over there and hang out. Now for the second time this weekend, I didn't read the fine print and missed an important detail about the shop's hours ( the first time being, when my friends and I drove to Oakland on Saturday to visit Fairyland and were denied entry because I neglected to read the part on the site that said," those over the age of 12 will not be permitted into the park unless accompanying a child"... I'm a child at heart!!!! ). The important detail here being the fact that they are not open on Mondays.

I TURN 5 20 YEARS OLD TOMORROW!!! :D
After four years of waiting I finally get to celebrate a real birthday! The greatest part of being a Leap year baby is the fact that, while people may make fun of me for being five right now...they won't be laughing quite as hard when their sixty-fourth birthday rolls around and I'm throwing my Sweet sixteenth party.
"When I get older, losing my head, way down along the road. Will you still be sending me Valentines? Birthday greetings, bottles of wine?...When I'm 64." ~ Beatles....I can't remember what the song is called, I only remember that line.

Ever since I can remember, I have been fascinated by Disney's version of The Sword in the Stone for one reason or another...I think it mostly has to do with the fact that when I was little I had a HUGE crush on Wart. Take that back, I still have a crush on him...which is probably why I have never had a boyfriend, seeing as I compare all potential candidates to the White Knight. ANYWAY, this was not the point of my blog!!
* steers self back on track* I can never seem to reign in my thoughts for very long, sheesh....
My point was, I was given the book for my ( early ) birthday and just finished reading it last night. I was pretty annoyed when I closed it, not because I was dissappointed with the story or felt let down, but because I was done. I didn't want the book to be over, I wanted to read more. Granted, there are two or three other books in the that come after it ( two? three? I can't remember which it is ), but I know the basics of Arthurian Legend and I know that the books will only get darker the closer I get to the last one.
I really enjoyed the fact that Robin Hood...excuse me, Robin WOOD, was in the book and friends with Wart. I also squealed for joy alot due to the fact that Wart was only called Arthur once in the entire book and even then it was King Arthur. One thing that amazed me though was how completely different Disney's version of Madame mim was from White's version of her. It was like looking at two completely different people! The Madame mim in the movie is this crazd old, purple-haired, pudgy, hag, while in the book, she is about thirty, drop-dead goregous, tall, slender, crazed, with black hair. I saw the illustration of her and immediately thought of Helena Bohnem Carter ( I always spell her name wrong...I think its right this time...). I now want to draw her, along with Maid Marian, who also surprised me. Unlike most of the versions of her where she is this simple, dainty, lady of the court, in Sword in the Stone, she is as good as Robin with the bow, can fight, can sneak through the forest, hunt, is better than most of the men in Robin's gang and is an all around English Amazonian woman. It's amazing to read!
Of course, Wart was my favorite part of the book, as well as the interaction between him and Merlyn.
....I think I need to watch the movie and then go read the book again....

I just realized how much I enjoy using my faery name....ANYWAY.
I'm feeling particularly random today and so I feel the need to post something about my now clean room. Being an art student with very little time, a clean room is a VERY rare thing to encounter. Not to mention it is almost impossible to keep it tidy for long, what with all the school projects leaping at you from behind every tree, bush, and innocent looking wall. I finally buckled down yesterday and cleaned it. Honestly, I'm kind of shocked that I can see my floor again. I found myself thinking," A floor? I have a floor???" Thanks to my determination, I now have not only a clean room, but a Work in Progress wall for all my current out of school art endevors and a prominent Faery wall, full of all the little posters and trinckets I was able to bring to Colorado with me. I also moved my desk so now I feel I can breathe more easily. My fish seems to like it....speaking of which I need to clean his bowl again...
Ack! I wanted to write more, but I just realized I'm late for my own birthday celebration....even though my birthday is the 29th....( I EXSIST THIS YEAR!! )

I decided to undertake a sort of art project that I want to involve as
many people as possible in. What I am doing is collecting answers to
the question " Do you believe in faeries" from people around my
campus, by leaving a little book at the front desk for people to write
in. In the one day it has been out, there has been a phenomenal
response and I am thinking I want to extend the project.
What
I am asking for now, is for all my friends to send me their answer to
the question be it through drawings, poems, sayings, or any other
method they see fit to express their opinion on the subject.
You can leave me a comment in this entry or shoot me an e-mail at shirefairy@sbcglobal.net. Any and all participation in the project is greatly appreciated.
