About Me: I am a writer, artist and sound technician, originally from the South East of England and now living North West in beautiful Cheshire.

I have always been very fey and love faeries, unicorns, mermaids, angels and all things magical. I have always felt 'different' from others, and reading Doreen Virtue's wonderful books led me to 'Earth Angels' and 'Realms of the Earth Angels', and I have come to realise that I am an incarnated elemental/merperson, specifically a MerFaery! So of course as you can imagine I adore the ocean as well as the faerie places of woods, gardens, flowers and so on.

I adore spending time in our lovely big garden, where I am growing culinary and medicinal plants, wildflowers, and a lovely cottage garden out the front. I follow the ways of organic and wildlife gardening, and am just learning about biodynamic gardening.

I am a spiritual person who believes in God and angels but I'm also a solitary kitchen witch and fledgling druidess. I am interested in green, cottage and hedge witchery as well as sea and faery magic.

I'm a happy, dreamy, nutty, freedom-loving Sagittarian and am very typical of my sign in most respects!

I love writing, in particular fantasy novels, and have almost finished my first (my trouble is I like starting new ones before I finish the others!). I especially love writing about Faerie!

Since joining this site I have also been inspired to explore art & crafts, and am hoping to embark on polymer clay sculpting, jewellery making and other crafts.

I used to work as a school Library Manager and have recently signed a publishing deal to write a book about running a successful school library, so am hoping that will boost my CV when it comes to pitching my novels! I also love writing poetry, although I haven't written for a while.

I LOVE trees - the first time I truly encountered Faerie was with the tree spirit of a willow. I also adore crystals and the natural world, and enjoy crystal and chakra healing.

I am also completely nutty about Xena Warrior Princess!!!

I'm so pleased to have found this site so that I can 'meet' other like-minded spirits! :o)

    Xena Charity Listings on eBay

    Thursday, August 28, 2008, 02:56 PM [General]

Not very faerie-related, but another of my projects is a fanzine that I run about Xena Warrior Princess memorabilia. I know there are a few Xenites on here so thought I would mention it!

The fanzines come on CD-ROM, each are around 40-50 pages in PDF format, and each issue covers a different area of merchandise - dolls, trading cards, jewellery etc.

80% of the set selling price goes to charity, the rest covers costs. Three issues are in support of Redwings Horse Sanctuary, four issues are in support of the RSPB, and the Year One set is in support of Friends of the Earth. Individual issues are £4 and the set of 6 is £23 (saving £1).

My eBay seller ID is thebattlingbard. Thanks for looking!

    Random Updates and Inspirations!

    Thursday, August 28, 2008, 11:37 AM [General]

Hello all! Firstly just wanted to apologise to everyone for not being on here much lately, I am currently glued to my chair and chained to my laptop as I am nearing the deadline for my book!! So blogging and forum posting and messaging has taken a back seat unfortunately, but will be back properly soon!

Secondly, I wanted to say thank you to everyone for their good wishes on my engagement, so sweet of you all!

    Photobucket

My book is progressing well, it is called Booked In! and is a guide for school librarians on how to run a successful school library (I was a schools library manager for a few years until I moved up to the lovely North-West!). The plan after that is to get back to my fantasy novel, 'Immortal Fates', which is Book One of a trilogy called The Age of Shadows. It is about wizards, demons, faeries, unicorns, pirates, magic and adventure! Am hoping that having my name in print via the library book will help me to secure an agent and publisher for my novels. Fingers crossed!

I also wanted to say just how INSPIRED I have been since joining this site! So many wonderful and talented artists, writers, sculptors, musicians etc. I have been so inspired, in fact, that I have got totally into Crafting, and am going to have a go at making some faeries with polymer clay (once that book deadline is out of the way, of course!) - watch this space!

It has also been so wonderful to meet so many like-minded souls. It has helped me embrace my spiritual path even more and enabled me to be more open about my beliefs. Three cheers for Enchanted Folk I say!

Finally, on a random note, can't wait to see the new Tinkerbell film - yup, Tink's got her own film and it's going to be the first of a series of Disney 'Fairy' films - hurrah!

I'll leave you with a pic of my favourite tree in our garden - the beautiful oak.

    Love and light to all!

    Poems III

    Thursday, August 21, 2008, 05:56 PM [Poetry]

It's been a while since I posted any poems so here are a few more from my collections!

    What am I

    But a million atoms

    A plethora of energy

    Vibrating for all it's worth

    What am I

But a soul in a vessel

    Awaiting a journey

    Back to Heaven from Earth

    What am I

But a drop in the ocean

    A ripple of love

    In a universal song

    What am I

    But a fragment of Heaven

    A part of every being

    In this Creation I belong

    ------------------

    "Cry to be Free"

In dreams we trust and in dreams we keep

Our unfathomed secrets that twist themselves deep

What strange malady of the heart comes on with the moon

And partakes in chaos to a wild untamed tune

Sometimes I cry though I know not why I weep

And though I lay tired I find I cannot sleep

My heart aches for that which I dare not find

All balance is lost for my senses are blind

Would I drown in this madness if it went not away

Or would clarity be born of insanity some day

I can but surrender to the madness of my soul

And until it passes the symptoms take their toll

Sometimes I cry though I know not why I weep

And though I lay tired I find I cannot sleep

And all flashes through me, maiden mother and crone

And voices surround me though I remain alone

For all of these stars in the midnight sky

There is more joy in me for the further I fly

I am but a bird who must always be free

I cannot be caged for the loss would kill me

Sometimes I cry though I know not why I weep

And though I lay tired I find I cannot sleep

Freedom is that in my heart which I keep

And in its release all rewards do I reap

    April 2004

    -------------------------------

    "Exquisite"

    So comes the light

    And the angels dance

    Forever within

    Forever without

    I am still here

    And yet not

    But I go on

    For you carry me

    Tree Spirits

Tuesday, August 19, 2008, 07:31 AM [Working with the Fey]

My first actual encounters with the fey began with trees. I mentioned in a previous blog about my dear friend passing away - once I had experienced the presence of his spirit, it was as if I opened up to further experiences. I took many walks in a park near to where I worked, in a little village called St Osyth in Essex. From a distance the park would not seem like much - it is an open field with a building (used for sports etc with children), football posts etc, but it is fringed all around the back with gorgeous trees, which create a border between the park and the neighbouring farmland. The park has a definite ancient ambience of mystery, magic and power - the village has a history with witches and a couple of roads away, there is a building which used to be used for holding women who were to be trialed and burned as witches. About 13 miles away, incidentally, is the village of Manningtree, where Matthew Hopkins, the Witchfinder General, lies buried.

Across the road from the park is St Osyth Priory (now privately owned, so the public are unable to visit any longer, which is a shame). Often I would walk past to go to the bus stop, and in my mind's eye I would see visions of witches of days gone by.

But I digress! I first became aware of the spirit of a beautiful old willow tree. Initially she only identified herself as the 'Mother Tree', then later I received the name 'Amyana'. She is beautiful, a maiden with flowing brown hair and usually wearing a grey-white long dress. She perches in the branches and talks with me. About two years after meeting her, I read the Cassandra Eason book 'The Modern-Day Druidess'. Now, I had never heard the term Mother Tree before, and as you do, I had experienced doubts about whether my encounters with the tree spirits (and later angels, and the fey) were real or imagined. I have since had numerous things confirm my psychic ability, second sight, whatever you wish to call it (I describe it as simply 'knowing'), and this was one of them. Contained within this book was a whole section on 'Tree Mothers'! These are older trees with older experiences and wisdom than other trees, and Cassandra describes them as "immensely comforting, protective in cold, lonely times, but challenging too, like any tough mother pushing her reluctant offspring to ever greater achievements, both personally and spiritually." This is so true of Amyana. She has been my guidance and my comfort, and though I have moved away from the area now, to the North West, whenever I visit home I have to go to that village, and even more so I have to go to her. She has granted me both wisdom and encouragement, and words of comfort in times of loss and destructive relationships. She feels like a spiritual home, and I have a twig from her boughs which I use from time to time when I feel I need some guidance. In return, incidentally, I gave her two crystals, which I went out to buy especially. In the shop, I was drawn to fire opal, and I had no idea why, because I didn't have any of this at home myself in my crystal collection, but for some reason they felt right. Again, two years later reading Cassandra's book, I read the section on Tree Mothers, which included a description of various trees, including the willow. The corresponding crystals for this tree? Moonstone/fire opal. I was stood in a bookshop when reading this section and I swear my mouth was hanging open! I had to buy it of course. I knew then that what I was experiencing was real.

As well as Amyana I met numerous other spirits in that park, and would love walking from one to the next to gather their wisdom or hear whatever else they had to say to me. I have been working with them on and off for seven years now, and recently I visited home and went there, on the 1st August, and they wanted me to share them with my fellow Enchanted Folk, so here is my journal from that day, and here are the beautiful tree spirits in all their glory!

~ Today I visited the park in St Osyth. It was so beautiful – like coming home. The sun was bright and warm, and the wind was blowing fierce.
    My messages were as follows:

    The Dark Prince

His dark figure appeared. The air feels colder and darker when in his presence, but not in a bad way. His message:
“Nature is cold, dark, heat, light. Live it, breathe it, feel it. Know it. Embrace it. Let it become part of you.”

    Herne

I had not met Herne before. His tree looks reminiscent of the Green Man, or Cerrenos, or Herne the Hunter. He heard my thoughts and confirmed himself as Herne.
“Know me as Herne. I am as you find me. Protect the Greenleaf.”
He said no more, but then he said he had no further message for me, but was going to fill me with his energy, to make me strong and ‘protect the Greenleaf.’
The wind suddenly felt warm, and it was as if it was blowing down and entering my hands, and sending energy coursing through my veins. There were faeries and pixies inside his branches, and playing down where the nettles and bramble and hawthorn were quivering in the wind. I closed my eyes, and saw a vision of the Green Man, laughing merrily. When I left him, he said one more word; “Heal.” I do not know if he meant others or myself. I think he meant both.

    Neriaper

She was as I remembered her – blonde and slight and wearing a plain cotton dress. She exuded happiness and joy as always.
“Laugh, and play, and run with the faeries,” she said. “Walk in ancient forest, visit the oceans of far-off places. On your journeys you will learn secrets, wisdom, and go further along your Way. Share this with those you know. Know that this is true, this is your Way. Be this. Love, little sister.” (NB the tree spirits often call me this, 'little sister'. It makes more sense now that I believe myself to be an incarnated merfaery, as I would be their sister of the ocean!)

    The Three Sisters

A new tree I had not met before, directly next to Neriaper. They simply echoed Herne; “Heal.”

    The Crone

“There is magic in your veins, child, and not just for healing. Be true to your Way. Do not fear, use what you have. The age of persecution is long gone.”

As I walked onwards towards the Mother Tree, the wolves were there, running with me, and Pegasus, and the Unicorn was ahead, beneath the Mother Tree. Faeries and gnomes stirred in the bushes, whispering ‘Tell them of us, tell them of us,” – I knew that they meant my fellow enchanted folk.

    Amyana

Oh how glorious it was to be standing once again beneath her boughs, enveloped in maternal love and energy. She was sitting upon a branch, brown and silver hair and long white dress shining. She smiled as I told her of my progress.

“I know you cannot stay long,” she said. “But take the energy of this place, and continue to grow, and when you next come here to this place, come sit with me awhile and we shall speak of the old days, the ancient Way.”
I closed my eyes and was given a vision then, of ancient forest trees first, then of being beneath deep ocean, dolphins close by. I could touch them, and hear their smiling voices. I knew I was being shown a part of my heritage.

    Guidiara

I moved joyously to Guidiara, who I refer to sometimes as child of Artemis, so closely does she resemble my imagined vision of the goddess. She smiles as I approach, and as I circle the tree, hand on the beautiful bark, she says,

“The Goddess, the fey, the Faerie Queens, the Seven Sisters, the children of Fate, the goddesses, the children of the Sun, know them all, embrace their wisdom. Be one with nature, know it, feel it, be it. Be Druid, be Wise One. Know yourself and who you are. Go to the wild places, dwell in forest, dwell in nature. Shine your light, so that others can find theirs.”

As I move across the field, looking back at Amyana and Guidiara, I hear the voices again, “Tell them of us,” and “Little sister, little sister of the ocean.”

    Jonas

On my way out I pass Jonas. He is sitting on a low branch, his dwarvish face beaming, stumpy legs dangling. His only words to me are:

“You can talk to others, you know. Talk to those in your garden, talk to the world. But know that we will always be here, whenever you need us.”

The time has come to leave, and I take one last look at the park, and beyond across the farmland.

Still is this place steeped in magic, ancient and powerful.

If only the Priory was still open to the public!

But to me, the park will always be a place where the veil is thin, a place where witches once dwelt and left remnants of their ancient powers.

I feel that the witches left their energy here for others to find, in later years, when the threat of persecution was long gone.

One last delight – it would seem that the folk of this village have magic and the fey in their hearts yet…

Until the next time, village of my heart..

Thankyou for letting us share in these wondrous discoveries! My lst Mother Tree is alongside a tiny brook in the woods next to my familial house which I no longer reside at. It is a big willow that juts a seat out over the tiny brook. I have not been to see her in 5 yrs or so and probably will not again. My 2nd Mother is The Lady of the Woods Birch which remains back at my familiar home yard. A twin birch from which I wrenched a triple branch in the cold winter to make my Bell Branch. I then realized I had offended the tree by wrenching that branch so! But she forgave me as several months later she surrendered a most suitable branch to be my staff.
My 3rd Mother now is Druantia, a 2 story fir just outside my apt. window. I shall build a faery portal around the patio doors that look out upon her.

What a wonderful conection you have with these tree spirits. Thank you for sharing. The pictures are wonderful. Just this evening I took a long walk in the woods as the sun was setting. Twilight is such a magical time and the trees always seem to welcome me with a sense of peace and well being. I certianly hope the trees know how grateful I am to them for sharing their energy with me.

Oh Louise! Your words move me so deeply that my eyes water. I am not alone! How many are there out there, all over the world, perhaps, who talk with trees? And to hear this insight flowing from a woman of Europe, right in a place where so many died for being medicine-people, shines to me like seeing a spring-luminous shoot from a stump thought dead, a promise of tomorrow, and indeed a promise of today!

It was a Talking Tree that saved my tribe, the Yaqui people, from the European invasion, making us the Undefeated Tribe. the Talking Tree taught us that the Spaniards did not understand Jesus, so while we embraced the religion, we rejected the corruption, the poison within the nourishment that would have killed our medicine.

We teach this to our children, but they don't believe it, no more than so many white children who hear about fairies, yet think it all nothing more than a game of pretend. They discard medicine not from fear of persecution or doubts of faith, but simply because they don't see it respected in the larger community. Your tradition and mine have so much in common!

The message that trees give to me by day, and Mother Mary tells me in my dreams by night, is "Plant seeds." Literally and figuratively. It seems a parallel to your own instructions, not the same, yet a related function within a larger mission.

Heal--oh yes! I have often felt that if healing took place in the chief sites where medicine-people have suffered persecution (both the Pagans who followed the ways given them to follow, and the Christians who worshipped Jesus in medicine-ways that made those without that specific grace jealous) then all would be healed, around the world, wherever the soul-starved conquerors went, hungering after what they had lost, yet believing themselves obliged to destroy it as soon as they found it, like a soul-starved man will marry a woman who has everything he lacks, everything he has killed in himself, yet once married, once "one" with her, feels obliged to kill in her the very thing that drew him.

We have thought too often of fighting, and not often enough of healing! We have not felt compassion for our starving tormenters, blamed them for violence committed in delirium. In you I see the beautiful truth of White people, who they were born to be, who they are when not soul-starved. Who they really are.

Anyone who finds the medicine in their own land, their own culture, their own selves, and nurtures it and loves it, cannot then persecute other races. They need no conquests, for they have all that they need within reach. And their wholeness spreads, wherever they go. They radiate health and light, and others around them respond to it, and the land sighs with relief, and all that is beautiful grows strong around them.

So many in my tribe and other tribes of Indians as well, have lost this, wanting to conform to the dominant culture. So then they join gangs and fight, trying to conquer each other, trying to steal what they could have for free. Or they try to find mystery in a bottle or a needle, not knowing the right places to look for mystery, poisoning themselves instead. Too many of us do not know how to listen to trees. Too many of us can pass out right under a tree and it might as well be a billboard or a prison wall for all they know.

So let me give an offering to the healing that you have embarked upon. I, as a Christian, apologize, from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of all of the Christians who thought that they had a divine calling to destroy medicine ways. Though I did not do it, yet as the spiritual heir of those who did, it is my right and my duty, an act of mercy to both them and their victims, to make reparation for those who went before me.

My reparation takes the form of a blessing, for you and for all who heal in the injured places of the world. May you always draw on strengths greater than yourself, and never be depleted in your work! May you see with your own eyes good fruit from your work! May you labor with joy, and rest with peace, and celebrate progress at every turn of the seasons! May you find agreement and support where you least expect it! May hearts change in favor of healing wherever you go! May all persecutions stop, and may healing and shared growth take its place! And may you see, as a confirmation of this blessing, a stump with a new shoot growing from it. I, Dolores Nurss, called Dreamdeer, pray this as the Blessed Mother prays beside me, in the name of my Lord Jesus, Itom Achai, amen.

I find it absolutely incredible that someone would listen to that poor puppy yelping as they continued to cut off it's ears. How insecure and callous those "people" are.

I'm glad I don't read about that here, though we do have a lot of selfish cityzens who move up here, who then get all pissed at the deer for eating "their" flowers. Hey - if you move into the bush, you're setting up in their homes. Fence off your flowers and stop shooting the wildlife.

    That also makes me sad.

Too sad. Our two dogs are rescue hounds, we have no idea of their background, but they are sweet and lovable. Mac has no teeth, but we think they never came in, and Baron has little social skills, but is trainable, and a love, and the two of them are inseperable.

I abhor this kind of stuff. THIS is WHY I prefer animals over humans sometimes!

Thanks! I am probably one of the biggest who fans in the known universe right now. The Doctor and I go way back, but I have to credit my cousins Lonnie and Steve for introducing me years ago. I love the site so far, all the folks here seem lovely!

    Hi Louise,

So nice to see you here. Your poetry is lovely, and I too would like to send you big Congrats on your proposal. I wish you and yours an enchanting and beautiful life together!

I just wanted to say that I love all of your photos. I'm a big fan of the adorable creatures in THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS. And the pics of Toad Hall, and your other enchanted pictures are very dear to my heart. You live in such a Magical Land in the UK!!

We used to see a series (in the US) put out by Cosgrove Hall productions, of Wind in the Willows, but it's not on TV any more. It was such and imaginative and fantastic production. I love the British children's literature of that era. They are some of my favorites.

I wish you all the Best!
