    The Great Dance of Life

Monday, September 8, 2008, 02:30 PM GMT [Poetry]

I found this poem that I wrote back in 2003. I remember it started to come out of nowhere and began composing itself in my head whilst I was walking around my favourite park with the tree spirits in. It was the first true poem I composed and brought on a rush of many more. I thought I would share it with you all!

    The Great Dance of Life

Where to begin a song that has
    No beginning or ending?
For all things turn in cycles
Infinite, unending, in life or death,
    Birth and rebirth,
    Days, months, hours, seasons,
    And everlasting millennia

There are many grains of sand
    In the crevices of earth
And yet more stars than all of those
    In the universe, uncountable, incomprehensible
    To our minds
Though if we let it be, and strain not on thinking,
We see it simply for the beauty
    And the mystery
    The wonder of it all

If it were only so simple
That we could think that way of all things
So life would go on turning
Without question, or criticism, or fear
In ourselves we would be peaceful
    And perhaps then
Our world would be peaceful too.

Think not on life as a struggle, for all it requires
Is an outlook of joy and optimism
    A train of thought
    An affirmation
    That all will be okay
No matter how tough living can be
    There are always choices
    And saviours
    And heroes
    In ourselves

There may be many dark days
But our hearts can make them shine
For what is light without the darkness
    And stars without the night?
It is in those darkest days when the glimmers of stars are visible
That we can see our way
For when our souls are at rock bottom
    Where else is there
    But up?

    Like ascending angels
We will rise and be reborn
Like the phoenix from the ashes
And we will be wiser for it
    And happier
    And more complete
    For we know
    And we are
    And we can be
In this great universe of mystery
    And wonder

Do not grieve for those you have lost
    Mourn their passing
    Move on
    And honour them
    Feel joy for them
    For they are free
I used to think that we were pawns of Fate
That when it’s time, we go
And all we choose is our path home
    But now
I wonder if perhaps there are interventions
    In our human, mortal ways

    But there are always reasons
    And experiences
And things to be learned from all in life
Be thankful for that small mercy
    And do no grow embittered
For they are always with you
    By your side
    In your heart
    Guiding your way

Think not that you have lost them
For they have not gone away
They are with you always now
Their attention and guidance and affection
Is not limited to times when they can fit you in their schedule
But is constant now, and everlasting
    Their love unconditional
    If it was not already
    So talk to them awhile
    And don’t forget them
    It is easier that way

Think now of those who wronged you
No matter how big or small their sin
And think of what created them
    Shaped them
    Made them
Into what they are, and were, and will be
    Let them go
    Forgive them, or at least,
    Be willing to forgive
And see them for what they could have been
If not for prejudice, misguidance, neglect, other things
That twist us in such ways

Let go of anger, resentment, hate,
    The festering only destroys ourselves
    Not others, for even revenge
Is a weapon against the self
    Stripping little bits away
‘Til we are bare, and vulnerable, and left to the throes
Of that other tool of self-destruction
    Guilt
    Take away lies
    Jealousy
    Envy
    Regret
    And all the limiting restraints
    We put on ourselves
    To stop our dreams
    And delay our destiny

    Let go

    Drift out into the stars
    Or the ocean
    Or the fields
    And be free
    Love yourself
    And all others
    No matter who they are
For they were once like you
    It’s just their path
    Took a wrong turn
And they could not find their way home

If your heart is full of things you cannot seem to be rid of
    Go back to the beginning
    Release everything that’s old
    That was not released before
    And love yourself for it
    Because it does not matter
    What you say or do
    Or how you look
    Or how you dress
Or what shape or colour or faith you are

I know that I have faults
But I do not berate myself for them
    I embrace them
    Work on them
    Release them
    Set them free
And all the time I remind myself
That I am a slice of the one whole circle
Of divinity, of creation, and at the same time
I am an individual, I am what I make me
    I am me

Money is something I strive for
But it is not what drives me
Material gains are for my taking
As and when I need them
But they are not what comfort me
Remember that the most simple things
Can bring joy no object can achieve
Like the embrace of a lover
    The song of another
The stars or the sun or the moon in the water
Baby’s first steps or the birth of your daughter
Or son, or the love of your parents and siblings
Or the being in nature or stillness in silence
Or the breath of sea air or the flash of fork lightning

I know there is more happiness in simplicity than complexity
Like the dragonfly in the garden
Or the bird that nods his head at me
    While I talk nonsensical
    And he sings to me
    To silence my chatter
    I walk in the woods
And I feel spirit around me
And there is more of God there
    And in hills
    And mountains
    And oceans
    And gardens
Than I will ever find in tall buildings
    Or at altars
    Of hypocritical preachers

When I sit, and I think, of what mankind could do
Instead of what he has done
I think that there is always hope
If I could just reach out
And touch every one of you
With the realisation of all that is sacred
Around you, above you, within you, without you,
    You might change
    And change others

It matters not how big or small
    You make your contribution
    But perhaps you think
That you would not make a difference
Or that people would not listen
Or maybe you don’t even care
But we can all make a ripple
    In the largest of ponds
    For can a butterfly’s wings
Not cause an earthquake in China?

In large oceans dwell small fishes
And each has their place, and is beautiful
With an equal chance against the current
And an equal importance to the way of things
    Down there
    In an unexplored kingdom
    Of infinite possibilities
    Just like the universe
    With the stars
That are more plentiful than the sand
    That our minds cannot comprehend

    And so it goes
    And so it grows
    This great river of life
    It ebbs and it flows
In large oceans and small streams
    It is ever changing
    Yet ever constant
    In a circle of rebirth
Like the rain and the tide
    The turning of our earth
And the seasons and their cycle
Of birth and rebirth, no beginnings, no end

Look within yourself for the answers
For only you can unlock the truth
And the truth is we all hold the key
To our lives, our essence, our body and soul
    We can eliminate disease
    Poverty of the soul
    Destruction of the self
And we can manifest our changes for the better
    If only we let go
And took hold of something new
    And better
    And let ourselves flow

    So dance with life
    In your utmost innocence
    For you will be rewarded
    With the greatest of gifts

    Just dance.

    Poems III

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 11:56 PM GMT [Poetry]

It's been a while since I posted any poems so here are a few more from my collections!

    What am I

    But a million atoms

    A plethora of energy

    Vibrating for all it's worth

    What am I

But a soul in a vessel

    Awaiting a journey

    Back to Heaven from Earth

    What am I

But a drop in the ocean

    A ripple of love

    In a universal song

    What am I

    But a fragment of Heaven

    A part of every being

    In this Creation I belong

    ------------------

    "Cry to be Free"

In dreams we trust and in dreams we keep

Our unfathomed secrets that twist themselves deep

What strange malady of the heart comes on with the moon

And partakes in chaos to a wild untamed tune

Sometimes I cry though I know not why I weep

And though I lay tired I find I cannot sleep

My heart aches for that which I dare not find

All balance is lost for my senses are blind

Would I drown in this madness if it went not away

Or would clarity be born of insanity some day

I can but surrender to the madness of my soul

And until it passes the symptoms take their toll

Sometimes I cry though I know not why I weep

And though I lay tired I find I cannot sleep

And all flashes through me, maiden mother and crone

And voices surround me though I remain alone

For all of these stars in the midnight sky

There is more joy in me for the further I fly

I am but a bird who must always be free

I cannot be caged for the loss would kill me

Sometimes I cry though I know not why I weep

And though I lay tired I find I cannot sleep

Freedom is that in my heart which I keep

And in its release all rewards do I reap

    "Exquisite"

    So comes the light

    And the angels dance

    Forever within

    Forever without

    I am still here

    And yet not

    But I go on

    For you carry me

    Poems II

Monday, July 21, 2008, 12:00 AM GMT [Poetry]

Here are some more of my poems.

    ----------

Oceans flow and steal the shore

They leave and then come back for more

And all the while the land stands still

    A giant eaten by water

The mighty oak or stately yew

Will far outlast myself or you

But still these regal elders fall

    At ignorant hands of mortals

    While the world turns in

    Destroys itself

    The few who know

    Stand fast

    The light will come

    And peace will reign

    The balance restored

    At last

In broken land the flowers grow

In merciless flame the new shoots show

All the anger in the land

    Cannot hold back the cycle

Wild hearts will love and seize the day

Their will is strong, they know their way

To walk in line with love’s demands

    Is the only path home

    While the world looks out

    Frozen in fear

    The few who know

    Stay calm

    They look within

    To find the Light

    The loves makes us all

    Disarm

    No fear, no hate

    So all remains

    A finer fate

    Where true love reigns

    -----------------

     Promise & Understanding

    Watch the ocean

    Chase the shore

    Escape away

    Come back for more

    And so let me

    Run free and light

    Then I’ll come back

    Before the night

     January 2004

     ---------------

    “Pick-Me-Up”

When you are tired and weary

And your light is growing dim

    Remember to breathe

And take with each breath an angel

    To replenish and illuminate

And so let the only draining

Be the draining of that apathy

    And float among the stars

Until your feet can again tread water

And bring your soul to shore

    January 2004

    --------------

    “A Thousand Words Can’t Describe”

    Tourmaline and cherry blossom

    Crystal water and flowers

    Silver birch and ametrine

    Celestine starshine bowers

    Diamond eyes and roses red

The earth that grows the seed

The ragged wing of rain-soaked bird

    And broken hearts that bleed

Miracles that grow in tree tops

    Dew and still waters glisten

The scent of morning after rain

And hearts to nature’s poet listen

Stars in the cosmos, coral in the sea

    A thousand hearts are beating

To the primeval rhythm of Mother Earth

    A thousand ways her greeting

    Moss-dressed log, and sunlight caught

In the web of spider-woven care

    A taste, a sight, a smell, a sound

A touch will take you there

    2003

    --------------

    “The Summer Maiden Fair’

    Behold the summer maiden, fair

Autumnal gold shines in her hair

Her skin is pale and deathly cold

Still beauty is a sight to behold

Her dress a robe of woodland green

Her emerald eyes hold mysterious gleam

Her hands upon a lyre of gold

    Her gaze mischievous and bold

The golden sun shines on the boughs

Of sacred trees this place does house

And the Folk of all surrounding land

Give praise to the summer maiden, grand

In wildwood yonder, bathed in green

Concealed from view, he moves unseen

Green Man watches, his kingly stare

    Upon that summer maiden, fair

    September 2004

    -----------------

    “No Going Back”

Into the woods she goes, she goes

Secrets of old she knows, she knows

Faerie lights that guide the way

Lead her where she’ll always stay

A rustle of trees she hears, she hears

The sacred grove she nears, she nears

Songs and whispers make it true

Faerie Queen will let her through

Faerie Door she knocks, she knocks

Through she goes, it locks, it locks

Mortal time has let her go

Faerie time will now be so

In mortal world she sleeps, she sleeps

In Faerie world she creeps, she creeps

Into the circle of light and cheer

World of wonders, she likes it here

    Poems I

Saturday, July 19, 2008, 08:40 PM GMT [Poetry]

I thought I would share with you some of the poems  I wrote a few years ago. My journey into Spirit and Fey began initially with tragedy - I lost a friend to suicide in 2001, but his spirit is still with me and thanks to him a whole new road opened up for me. He was one of those people who touched many, and I am thankful for the blessing of knowing him if only for two and a half short years. Because of him I opened up to Spirit and became aware of not only deceased Spirit, but tree spirits, fey and angels. My interest in Druidry followed thereafter.

I wrote a lot of these poems when I was working in a little Essex village called St. Osyth; there is a small park there with a beautiful willow tree, and the tree spirit inspired much creativity in me. At the time I was not only soul-searching spirituality-wise, but was also yearning to find my soulmate. Add to that an awakening to the presence of angels, a desire to move on from what had become a frustrating workplace, and a concern for the environment, and you have the majority of factors that would have influenced these poems! A lot of them are about soulmates, angels and love. :o)

I'll post more in time but for now here are two of them. Hope you enjoy them :o)

    ---------

    “The Web That Weeps Mortals”

In a web spun silver by a spider that cries

I lie entangled awaiting my prize

Sweet release from this wearying time

And thus surrendered unto oblivion sublime

The weather flies by in a flurry of sights

I am blind to its beauty for my heart it fights

My vision lies lost in the fields of the broken

Surmounted by solitude and words left unspoken

This moment, this time, this questioning doubt

Gnawing at me while my head floats about

Dazed and confused for my self is not my own

I am frozen inside and stripped down to the bone

There is nothing in my story to salvage my ships

No heroes come here, no prince to kiss my lips

It is for one person alone to save me

For only within can I set myself free

So I break loose the web that binds me to the world

The silver spun threads to oblivion are hurled

I unleash my soul, and to the heavens it flies

To leave sorrow behind with a spider that cries.

    -------

    “Songbird”

    Sing to me songbird

    Tell me of your woes

Sing to me of distant lands

    Their friendly folk and foes

    Give to me your promise

    That you will again return

And bring to me your stories

That I may hear and learn

    Take me on a journey

Through your thicket and your trees

    Give me an escape route

    From this drudgery sweet release

Oh sing to me my songbird

That I may grow wings and fly

And learn myself my own tune

    To help get myself by

    Then fly away sweet songbird

In skies that set you free

And think of me, oh songbird

Left behind with nought but me

And if you chance upon one

Whose fate is much like mine

Then send them swiftly to me

With their kisses sweet like wine

    Then perhaps dear songbird

You would find a brand new song

    Inspiring others, your song immortal

While the shadows yet grow long

So keep singing, dear sweet songbird

And take with you all my love

Go touch another as you have me

With divine fragility sent from above

Soar and fly, and sing eternal

Your wings spread wide in elation

And take your tune wherever you go

    Inspiring peace in every nation

     ------

    Blessed Be!
