    a Short note

Saturday, April 12, 2008, 07:19 PM EST [General]

Hi all and blessings to you all.

Haven't been well lately, the ol' back injury not liking spring rains too much!

I got a note from Kaade about a festival he's playing at, unfortunately too far for me too attend. But through the links of that festival I was able to link to other ones, a bit closer to me and some in Canada and Michigan (next door to me). I've started posting them on my calendar page, just an FYI for anyone.

Of course there are tons of Ren Festivals throughout the USA and World, and several large Fairy festivals in the USA and a couple in Canada. I'll be putting them on my calendar as I find them or someone sends me a note about them.

I did find a cool day, Fairy Day,  http://www.fairyday.com/ on June 24th. This can be celebrated anywhere, at home or at a festival. Visit the page and see all the great downloads, cards and other things, Jessica Gailbreth and friends have for you! Terrific stuff!

    Thanks all!

A spring day in northern Ontario

Saturday, April 5, 2008, 04:50 PM EST [Writing]

Was a lovely spring day today. About 45F with the sun shining, snow starting to quickly melt. Around the edge of the house snow has all gone, leaving the crushed undergrowth and grasses to come out and try to enjoy the sun and turn from the winter yellows to green.

I had to get the ice chopper, to clear the deck and walkway to the oil tank as I have some oil being delivered on Monday. We never know when winter will return for one last blast. In the paper today it said with the snow that fell last Monday we recieved 350 cm/140 inches of snow this winter. Wow we haven't had a winter that heavy in about 10 years.

My gardens are start to peek out from their winters nap. The big pines trees in the backyard have rained their pine needles everywhere. On the deck, on the grass in the flower beds, everywhere you look, pine needles. Wouldn't be so bad if the acid in then didn't kill grass, flowers and cover everywhere. I took the edge of the shovel I had been moving some snow with and uncovered the pine needles from a patch of the garden. to my surprise, here underneath was  a green patch of perinneal flowers, the leaves still wet from the snow, but they stood at attention as soon as I took the needles off.

I spoke to that patch of garden and said "there you go my darlings, the acid of the tree has gone and you are free to grow, and enjoy the sun." Their leaves twinkled in the sun and moved like they were waving at me.

I had cleared the path of most of the ice and snow that I could, the rest too thick for the chopper to cut through, I added some calicum carbonate....not toxic to plants or pets as my dog goes outside in the backyard, all the time and I don't want to hurt her feet or my plants and lawn.

My back told me enough for today, so I put my tools back into the garage and closed it up. I came to the front of the house, where the melting has been at a fast rate, as it's in the sun all day. I looked around the corner to see what I was going to need to trim besides the never ending Hydrainia bush and climbing rose bush, and what did I see?? The crocuses already blooming and patches of them coming up, thru the grasses and snow patches.

Then out of the corner of my eye I saw them, 3 young fairies in green, to blend in with the scenery I think, dancing and hopping around the crocuses. They are so happy spring is coming. They don't have to stay hidden any more and know they are safe here.

The covers I had over the rose bush has burlap inside and other bits of insulating things to keep the bush from freezing and so the fairies can take some to their lairs, to keep them warm when it is soooo cold out in the winter.

I watched them dance around the patch of crocuses, encouraging it to grow and bloom, and came inside to freshen up and leave the fairies to their work.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Just a quite weekend

Sunday, March 30, 2008, 11:18 PM EST [General]

Well was a quiet weekend here after an insanely busy week.

Spent alot of time relaxing and watched a couple of old movies I found on tv. One of my most favourites was on this afternoon, "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison. What a lovely movie. Gives thought to why there are so many things in the world to help us out. Whether they are spirits, fairies, angels call them what you will ~~ they are here to help us grow and learn and to not be so closed minded.

Well just got a call one of my girls won't be in tomorrow, so I already know things will be busy. Talk at you in a few days.

    Love and light

    Nancy

    People using artwork

Friday, March 21, 2008, 09:20 PM EST [General]

I went to  a glitter site tonight to add some little tags to my collection for blogs/comments and such. To my surprise there wasn't just computer generated female fairies but alot by well know artists including Renee Biertempfel and Nene Thomas. The only copyright tag on the pic was for the glitter graphics site. No artist tag, or copyright.

    http://www.glittergraphicsnow.com/fairy.html

Now I don't know about you but myself this p*sses me off. I know 2 of the tags were Nene's art as I have the figurines, I know another was Renee's as I have a print of the original print, not this glitterifed one.

I belong to a few PSP sites and they have lists of who allows tags made of their work and who doesn't, everyone follows the rules and don't make the tags or get a license from the body that the artist works with. Fair enough. Then where and how do these public sites get to use the pictures without giving the artist credit let alone the licensing body like CILM. They make things bad for everyone. Personally I can't get my poor brain wrapped around how to PSP, so friends make me tags and sigs. They all have the copright tags on them. I wouldn't know how to delete it if I wanted to, and it just lets the blogs I write on know they are legal tags and no one has pilfered the picture and the artist is getting credit.

That's how I found my favourite artists on eBay and their prints and figurines, was the tag someone made me and their copyright line on it. Now I have about 48 figurines and 6 prints I've framed as well as make bags, lightswitch covers, tiles, all kinds of things.

All my friends know to buy me something with a fairy on it for Christmas or my birthday, the same as I know to buy my best friend something with Harley on it or a part for her bike. Do you think Harley Davidson isn't getting their cut out of the items I buy for her? You bet they are! Then why is it ok for these sites to use artists art on their sites without giving the artist credit?

What do you think? How can this downright theft be stopped?
