    Hi everyone!

My names kate & Ive been painting faeries for about 3 years, I used to collect flower faeries when I was little, then rediscovered my love of faeries when I was about 18 & a friend showed me the Brian Froud pressed faerie journal & Ive been obsessed ever since! I soon had a large collection of Brian Froud books,

I studied art & design at Yorkshire coast college in Scarborough, then went on to gain a degree in fashion & textiles from Liverpool John Moores university where I drove my tutor mad with my faerie obession! filling my sketchbooks with my poor copies of Brian Froud drawings & even a phase were all my fashion designs were on figures that were green with pointy ears!I soon realised the fashion world wasnt for me! but the design & illustration background has helped me alot in my painting & still now one of my favourite things when im doing a painting is deciding what outfit the faeries going to wear!

I didnt start painting my own faeries till I got the book 'The art of Faery' by David Riche, before that I spent many years copying Brian Frouds work, so he's definatly my biggest inspiration, I find I get inspired my loads of things now, all the faerie artist in 'The art of faery' such as Amy Brown,Linda Ravenscroft & Jessica Galbreth, I love the books of Marrion Zimmer Bradley which are so magical & always make me want to paint Goddess pictures. I love the fantasy writer Jack Vance too, his books are full of legends, magic & faerie. Lots of my friends are inspiring too as lots of them remind me of faeries & I just want to paint them!

Once I started painting my own faeries, i was thinking what to do with them so I started making cards, then this turned into faerie notebooks & photo albums & so in 2005 I did my first faerie stall & loved it so much, Ive done quite afew since then & at one of them in Wimslow near Manchester I took my paints & started painting faeries for people there & then, as I discovered I could paint a really quick faerie in about 30mins (my blue faerie & Lilac faerie are quick ones) this was such good fun & hopefully will do another faerie stall soon xxx

Hello Kate, your comment button's gone invisible! Thank you so much for joining us here and sharing your lovely work and magical story. It still astonishes us that those tutors can't seem to see the value of this wonderful fantasy world all around us...
We wish you well with your faerie art, from one Brian Froud fan to another - Smiles,
