    Hubby challenge-New Art Studio

    Friday, February 22, 2008, 10:11 AM [General]

We have a wonderful room above our garage that is unfinished. It has a floor (sub flooring) and no heat or finished walls. It was partially used by the original owners that built the house about 11 years ago. He was a carpenter, so the room has some great work benches and some cabinets in it. 2 owners later the room was still never finished b/c both couples went through divorces. Well, I finally figured out that I have next to no room in my current art room. It is a spare room in our house. I refuse to get rid of the big cozy couch in it. I have no room to buy large paper or mats. No room to store them and no room to cut them down. And I will be getting all my products and supplies for the upcoming festivals I will be doing this year....where's it all going to go? It is obvious that I am running out of room b/c my little art hobby is now a real business. So, we are going to try and get the room above the garage finished so that I can be in it  by the summer.

Ok so here is the challenge. My wonderful and handy husband takes be up to the room last night to decide how I want to set things up, what cabinets and shelving I want to keep and what should go. Then he tells me "forget about what is in there now and picture the room completely empty. Now picture your ideal studio set up exactly how you want it. Don't think of the money right now!" :D :D :D Now, my hubby can build just about anything with wood. Built in bookcases, shelves and I showed him this and he thought that it would be pretty easy to build as well (trying not to think of money, but building it would sure save a lot of money).

Anyway, now that I can shoot for the moon in designing my studio ( I am sure we will scale back when we find out how much everything costs). I have some ideas, but am finding it difficult to pinpoint what would make for a great, comfy studio.

So, I figured I would ask all of you. What is your ideal art studio?
