    Message

This is the card of vision and new beginnings. It is the onset of spring where the intense energy of the previous card has now crystalized - transforming into a luminous vitality. Here the fire enegy develops from the fierce passion of the Two of Scepters into a more structured inner harmony. The passion of the previous card awoke the sleeping earth from winter, allowing for the heat and light of the sun to bring new life to flourish. In the three of Scepters the fire energy has transformed into a structured plan, allowing for conception of the original spirit of fire to formulate. The energy now takes on a directed flow, in harmony with the cosmic laws. When this card appears in a reading it signifies that we are now connected with this cosmic flow and that we are being drawn towards new horizons and awakenings. It is a time to make plans, to prepare for a journey and to set sail into the unknown. Perhaps a new and exciting project, oppotunity or event in our lives is now presented to us. The card represents the beginning of a new cycle, a fresh breeze has entered our surroundings, filling us with enthusiasm and vitality. We are urged to use our skills of innovative and our sense of adventure to move towards new horizons in our lives. Just as the sun warms and nourishes the earth so we are norished by the exhilaration of a new phase of inner awakening. The time is perfect to start fresh endeavors and activities, to take the next step in our development or to activate a new step in our career or enviroment. New or existing relationships are unfolding and crystalizing into deeper vitality and new possiblities are opening up before us. The card represents the creative urge to seek out adventure and begin a journey; a journey towards greater prosperity and happiness. We feel a thrilling sense of wonder as we visualize our desires becoming a reality. Our spirit is rekindled and we must now send our hopes and dreams into the flow of the Everlasting.

    Analysis and Symbolism

.It is important at this time to make plans for our journey, to state what it is we desire and to prepare ourselves for the quest ahead. The card pocesses a strong quailies of virtue, patience and centeredness. This teaches us that once we have prepared and charting our journey, or have created our project and sent our wish or idea into the flow of the cosmos, we need to be patient and calm - faithful that the treasures we seek will return to us at the correct time. Being both noble and virtuous the energy here also relates to our personal calling or a talent that we pocess. It maybe that we are being encouraged to take the role of a leader or guide - inspiring others to greater acheivements, and using our understanding to help others on their journy. A noble sense of duty, patience and warmth, as well as our vision will aid us in this undertaking. This quality of virtue in the Three of Scepters also implies that we must remain respectful and honorable in our quest - and to accept the flow of our destiny with dignity, grace and everlasting hope.

The Three of Scepters shows a Vampress holding a ram-headed scepter in one hand (Creative Energy) and a red rose (Virtue and Harmony) in the other. Together these illustrate the male and female qualities contained within the card. The active (masculine) energy of Scepters is here combined with the inactive (female) energy of Binah (her position on The Tree of Life). These elements are perfectly balanced, creating a force of both command and of sensuality. The harmony of mind body and spiri has been achieved, which is illustrated by the poise, beauty and grace of the Vampress. She is immensely powerful in her rule of command - assertive and far-seeing yet sensual and adaptable. In the background we see her dark ship setting of on its journey into the unknown - representing the plans, desires or projects and her hopes and dreams that she has carefully prepared and set into motion. The ship is directed towards a new dawn, a watery sun _ reflected by the lantern on the ship - symbolizing that our dreams and desires are already contained within our destiny. She awaits, still dreaming and visualizing her aspirations, patient in her waiting - for the promise and treasure that wil return to her when the ship returns. The card is ruled by Aries and exaulted in Sol; which reveals more of its nature. Aries is the sign of active energy driving forward, while Sol (the sun) illuminates our lives with life-giving heat, brilliance and steady vitality. When we see the Three of Scepters is the time to accept our vision and be confident that we can obtain what we desire by reflecting on it with both excitment and stillness - creating an inner feeling of vitality and inner harmony.

Ian, loved your article in Faezine this month. I love old folk tales and their serendipitous meanings, which allows us license to interpret thru art.
