    Baby, it's cold outside!

Haven't had much to say as of late.  I've been updating my shop on etsy with some Valentine's day themed items (already sold one to a customer in France!  Makes me want to start keeping a map of all the countries I've shipped to.)  Otherwise, I've just been trying to take it easy and recovery from a little minor surgery.  This is my second time having this particular procedure, and at first, it seemed to go over a lot smoother this time, but there's just a bit of nagging, lingering pain that I just can't seem to shake.  Mmmm, my check up should be soon, so not too worried, and I haven't showed any of the warning signs (no fever, no fluid retention, no sudden weight gain, etc.)

But, that's about it.  Oh, I am continuing my rabid addiction to Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, and recently put in an order for this t-shirt and the corresponding perfume oil "Candle Moon."

The perfume is:  "Moonlight shining on the Quickening Tree, the heat and wax of sacred candles, the milk of ewes, Brigid's blackberry, the sting of keening wind, and the last flutter of the Cailleach's winter snow."

    Happy 2010!

Saturday, January 2, 2010, 04:00 PM EST [General]

Back in Brooklyn, New Years Eve is behind us all, and a new year stretches out past the horizon.

I was sick for almost my entire trip back to Mississippi, and thus felt that it was far too short, as I didn't get to get out and visit old friends.  It was still a great Christmas, though, staying in sick, watching tv and occasionally playing games with my parents on their Wii Fit.

Sis was so taken with the Wii Fit that she ordered one while we were still home.  It got here New Years Eve, and she set it up yesterday.

I've still got the strangling ends of a cough, but that's about it.

I do hope everyone had a good holiday and New Years Eve, and hopefully 2010 will hold more for us than last year.

    Just a little bit longer

Monday, December 7, 2009, 12:10 AM EST [General]

7 days and I'll have flown out of this sprawling metropolis and be landing in a much smaller, warmer, burg, and then being driven out to sprawling anti-metropolis of the great wide country.

I always have a few mixed feelings about going home.  I love my family, I love getting to see certain friends.  I love the great big green expanse of Mississippi countryside, and the dearly missed starry skies.  However, I can't stay long before I'm bored out of my mind, and feeling like I need to get back to Brooklyn.

Of course, coming back here also has it's own pros and cons.  I love the city, I love living here, but it's a cold, cold city, particularly in winter, and it's a lonely city.  It seems, despite the millions upon millions of people always stacked up on each other, that it's really hard to meet anyone, or make a connection, let alone forge a real friendship. (Quite a few aquaintances, but not the kind of people you'd call if you wanted to talk, or go watch a movie or get a beer together and just hang out.)

Of course, I know I'm feeling extra exposed and vulnerable on this front because of certain events that I know better than to talk about on a public forum.  But still, even rationalizing one's feelings and logically knowing their source, and course does not mean you can change how you feel at any given time.

So, for now, I'm lonely.  Eressëa quenditit (lonely little elf-girl).

    Fidgety Phil

Monday, November 30, 2009, 05:20 PM EST [General]

I'm apparently a bit manic today.  Got up early, went and delivered my packages to the Post Office (regardless of nasty, rainy, cold, rainy, wet, ick) and tried to take a little nap.

Nap didn't take, got up ate a sandwich and started work on dinner (Scotch Broth, made from lamb bones, mushrooms and barley - and a lil red wine for deglazing) and then just got frickin' FIDGETY!  Can't sit still very long, my knee is bouncing right now.

I've worked on my soup, mixed up a new batch of BPAL lotion for myself (using "Boomslang" it's a snake oil plus cocoa and rice milk, if I remember correctly) was still fidgety and so mixed up a BPAL bath bomb with purple glitter and "Swank" (pomegranate martini).

Still fidgety!  Would run around screaming, except we're subleasing my roommate's room while she's out of town, and I don't want to scare the patronage.

Still to wet, drippy, nasty, rainy and cold to go outside and burn off the excess energy.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 26, 2009, 04:21 PM EST [General]

I know a lot of the folks on this site are from the UK, but still. . . I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm killing time at the moment, waiting to go to an "Orphan Thanksgiving" (friends throwing it for a bunch of their friends who have no family and no where else to go) and am just waiting for my sister to finish dyeing her hair and cooking the greenbeans (I baked a lovely loaf of cranberry orange bread late last night to take).

It'll be nice to get out of the house and get to socialize with some friends as well as probably some new people.  It's funny, as terrified as I can be of people, in general, the idea of meeting new people and potentially making new friends is always exciting to me.  (I am a dork.)

So, hope wherever you are, whatever you're doing, you have a wonderful day, eat well, and remember to be thankful.
