I have a beautiful, very special painting for you - a holiday themed one at that, painted on wood!
"Holly Angel" - A holiday-themed piece, a sweet angelic fairy with holly in her hair - perfect as a Christmas gift or winter decoration (or year round, of course too!). She has short white/silver hair and luminous green eyes. The sides of the beveled wood panel are painted a glossy black - it is quite stunning! It is an environmentally-conscious selected wood, no worries! It was sanded very smoothly prior to painting, and has been painted directly on the wood. I have finished the piece with a glossy varnish and it looks amazing! No framing is needed - I will include a sawtooth hanger and screws for easy hanging! It is about 6.5"x8.5" - original acrylic painting on wood (about 1" thick basswood). And now - "Dorothy and Toto" is the name - the second installment (after my Wicked Witch and her Flying Monkey piece) in my "Oz" series. I've always loved the Wizard of Oz and other Oz books (and associated media), and having been born in Kansas myself and always in search of adventure and fantasy, I feel a little affinity with Dorothy at times. Here I've shown Dorothy in her cute blue dress, with her faithful cairn terrier dog Toto, walking through some increasingly creepy woods.... She's a big painting and very, very detailed - measuring 16"x20" - original acrylics on sheet of canvas. I had terrible dreams about school all night long =P
I don't have dreams in general very often, but when I do, they're usually very annoying. Like having to go back to take a class at school for some reason, even though I'm now in my twenties, and have a successful career that doesn't require a degree, and I already have a degree. So I don't know why Dream Jasmine goes back to school in these dreams, but it's sure annoying.
Lately, after the Daylight Savings Time time-switch, I've been waking up at 7:00am instead of 8:00am. I'm going to try to stick with it. I get a lot done in the mornings. I've been so busy lately, it's crazy - trying to finish up half a dozen projects at once, especially things that need to be done before Christmas, etc. In a way, I'm happy - I stopped accepting Christmas-deadlined commission work back in July, so I don't have to deal with last minute requests (just catching up on other stuff). My commissioned painting waiting list is now running two years now, so I won't have that problem until 2010, and probably not even then if things keep up.
Still fitting in time to do my OWN paintings too - in fact I'm almost done with a new WIZARD OF OZ themed piece. I'm going to do a series - kinda started with my Wicked Witch & Her Flying Monkey and will continue showing the various other characters as well. I'm going to explore some of the more obscure Oz books and characters too, not just the usual ones. That's the plan at least =)
Matt's still sleeping. When we were in London, we got used to going out for "Full English Breakfast" in the mornings, which Matt loved! So back in the States now, I make Matt "English Breakfast" every Sunday mornin. For the non-Brits here, an English Breakfast more or less consists of Sausage (But of course with us it is VEGETARIAN sausage, which is plentiful in England), Eggs, beans, grilled mushroom, grilled tomato, potatoes, and then tea & toast. In England they have a magnificent selection of Quorn brand veggie-sausages. But none of those have migrated to this side of the Atlantic yet, so I typically make him breakfast with Morningstar Farms veggie links, which are tasty, but not nearly as good.
Myself, I'm NOT a breakfast person. I have a cup of juice and a bowl of all-bran cereal with raisins every single morning, that's pretty much it. Ho-hum.
Oh! I just heard him taking a shower, I'll go start that breakfast now! Hope everybody is enjoying their weekend. I'll post tonight when I finish the new Wizard of Oz painting!
I'm mad - I had thought that my scanner (of the past 8 years) had conked out on me, halfway through scanning my new painting. So we had to go to Office Max to buy an emergency scanner. And when I got home, on a whim - I tried the new cord on the old scanner, and it works fine. So I guess the old cord is what conked out on me =P
Well, now I have a new backup scanner just in case, I guess. I much prefer my old scanner, I'm going to use it until it dies!

As you may know, I'm illustrating a book of short stories. It's a daunting task requiring dozens of illustrations, but I have just finished the third one and she turned out soooo pretty! I'm able to offer this piece and the subsequent paintings for sale along the way, so be on the lookout for more soon. The book will not be out for quite some time, but I will let you know when it is published, too.
"Fiona" is the name - it is a portrait of one of the girls in the book of short stories I'm doing the illustrations for. It is a gorgeous painting - I'm very proud of her. In the book, Fiona is a girl-creature who lives atop a range of snowy mountains, in a land of cold and ice. She is a friend/protector of the icy unicorns who live up there, and she has two tiny magical horns on her head, if you look closely. This is a portrait-style painting of Fiona, showing her violet eyes looking rather thoughtful, with her pale hair blowing in the wind. She's quite large and detailed - measuring 16"x20" - original acrylics on sheet of canvas. This piece may be of particular interest to collectors as she will be published in an upcoming book (ie, she might be famous someday, hehe!).
