24 weeks and all is well!

Wednesday, June 11, 2008, 11:33 PM GMT [General]

Hi everyone, sorry it's been so long since i last posted anything here but i was waiting until i had been for a clearer scan... Well here it is!

Our baby 'GIRL' at 24 weeks old! Waving hello to you all!

We went for the 20 weeks scan, but it was not a very good day.  My mother couldn't come because she had hurt her back and was in too much discomfort to travel to Manchester.

The date of the scan was 14th May... Rangers Vs City... and as mentioned the scan was in Manchester!.  The crowd had already started to form when we arrived at St. Peters square at 10am on the metrolink, a lot of them were already drinking or drunk!

We got a taxi to the hospital from the metrolink as usual and thought nothing more about it whilst we had the scan done.  Everything was ok, but the pictures are not very clear. Some of the staff were leaving early because of the football and everything was delayed then rushed.

We left the hospital in a taxi to go back to St. Peters Square Metrolink station, slowly crawled through the mounting traffic and crowds and eventually made it to the station (£7 worse off!).  We waited for around 15 minutes, surrounded by drunken scotts in kilts only to hear an announcement over the tannoy that the tram had been cancelled and we were to get to Victoria station for a tram back to our destination.  If we had managed to get another taxi from there it would have taken ages to get to Victoria station because the traffic was not moving and it would have cost more money than we had.  Another lady who was waiting for the same tram said that she knew the way and suggested that we walk together so we did...

We had to pick our way through crowds of very loud football fans all the way to Victoria.  It was a very frightening experience, especially because of my disability AND being 20 weeks pregnant, because of which i was unable to walk fast and got very tired very quickly. Our walking partner was in more of a rush and wanted to get out of the crowd so she gave us directions and abandoned us to walk at her own pace, so off she went.  We carried on for a while then stopped off at a pub that wasn't letting football fans in for a quick rest, and Paul needed the loo! we came out and had to ask a policeman further directions then carried on walking to the station.  I dont know how many miles it is, but to me it seemed like 10 or more, it took us around an hour to get to the station but we were relieved when we turned the final corner and headed in. The tram was fairly empty all the way to our stop, we got in the car, heaved a big sigh of relief then headed home.

Todays experience was totally different.  We had found out recently about Patient transport services that uses an ambulance service to take patients to appointments. They use taxi's, vans and minibuses, collect from your door, take you to the hospital, then take you back home again after.  It is free and stress free.  Only problems are that you do have to share with strangers and there are a few pick ups and drop offs and you can wait a while for the return ambulance, but it cost nothing and is much much easier than public transport. We got there just on time for our appointment and a lot happier.

We asked the sonographer  to check if she has my condition and it seems like she has.  Paul and i are happy though, as long as in the main she is healthy, which she appears to be. Her head and body measured the right size for a 24 week scan, but her arms and legs measured the size of a 19-20 week scan. There is also a bit more fluid in the fetal sack than in a usual pregnancy, but we have been told that is common in babies that have skeletal dysplasia (growing problems).  Everything else measures up as it should and it doesn't look like she has a Cleft lip or palate, (but that is not conclusive) and the sonographer couldn't see any problems with the hips either but again she wasn't 100% sure. So really her only problem is that she will be small in stature like me, another real Faerie!!!

I knew from the start that i was having a girl (womens intuition i suppose) and when the sonographer confirmed it i was so pleased.  We would have been happy with either but with a girl we can dress her up pretty like a fae, and it will be easier for her as she gets older because i will be able to help her with any problems to do with her condition.

We are booked in for another scan in 4 weeks time, just to check on the progress of her growth. I will of course get another piccy and post it here.  As yet we have not decided on a name, but we do have a few very nice and unusual names that we are seriously thinking about.  We will let you know when we have decided, but any more suggestions would be very welcome.  Just remember, it has to be a nice but unusual name.

For now i am going to leave it there as it's late, but i thought i should post something here tonight to keep everyone up to date with the new fae,

Thank you for being so patient whilst waiting for news and for all your kind words.

    Faerie Blessings

Another look at the new Fae!

Saturday, March 15, 2008, 11:43 PM GMT [General]

Hello everyone again, as promised here is the second look into my tummy at our little fae.

He/She is 11 weeks and 2 days old at the time of the scan and doing very well...

We went to see the obstetrician for the scan on friday 14th march just after noon. We sat in the waiting room for just over half hour after travelling there by public transport and taxi and i was a little hungry as we had not eaten much that morning.  When i was called in i lay on the couch got the cold gel squirted on and the scan commenced...

We were greeted by the baby looking directly out at us... Once it had let us see it was watching us back and let us listen to the heartbeat it decided to dance for us. The obstetrician was getting a little annoyed and muttering under her breath as she tried in vain for a good half hour to get a good measurement whilst the baby did somersaults, turned upside down and generally wriggled about inside me. When she eventually managed to get her readings she then had to get baby to look away from the scanner to get a profile picture for us. She had to try and manipulate baby by squidging around on my tummy to make baby look away, at one point she had to stop the scan because my tummy was jiggling around so much with me laughing, I was almost crying with laughter. I had to compose myself and apologise so she could continue. She commented that usually at this age most babies are not as active as ours, which has give us something to think about for when he/she is born. Is it going to be hyperactive and running around all the time keeping us on our toes. LOL.

We are looking forward to the next scan, which is in the middle of May. Baby will be 20 weeks old then. We invited my mother to come along too, so she can see her grandchild before he/she is born. This will be the first scan she has ever seen "live" and knowing what she is like we will have to take some tissues for her. We will also find out the sex at this scan we hope, if baby keeps still long enough and shows us what we need to see!

Thats it for this blog, thank you for reading and taking an interest, We will of course update with more scan piccys and maybe even another funny story, speak soon and fairy blessings to all.

    Karina & Paul.

    A New Fairy

Saturday, February 23, 2008, 03:41 PM GMT [General]

Hello to everyone, thanks for looking.

Just to let everyone know that i am 8 weeks pregnant, i had my first scan on wednesday 21st feb 2008 and all seems well.

This will be our first fairy baby and we would like to share our exciting news with you too.

Because of my stature the doctors want to keep a close eye on the progress of my pregnancy so i will be having another scan in 4 weeks, which i will post on here for you all to see. Then i may have another one at 16 weeks into the pregnancy but that depends on how the doctors think things are going (I will still try and persuade them though)

We do not know yet what sex the Fairy Baby is until we have our 20 week, scan we shall be finding out then. We might also be asking for some help in deciding on a name for our little one but it has to be very unusual. We already have famliy members thinking of names, we will let you know once it has been decided.

My due date is around the 1st oct 2008 but as doctors have pointed out because of my statue and my pelvis being small I will not carry to full term (40 weeks) maybe between 30-35 weeks we shall keep everyone informed about how things are with us, and my bump!

What wonderful news! Congratulations! Personally, I like the name "Roberta Fay" if it's a girl... "Bobby Goblin" if a boy...(Grin!)
