My name is Kevin Buntin and I currently reside within the wilds of Troy, Ohio, with my beautiful wife, brilliant stepdaughter, and one very eccentric cat. Art has always been a part of my life, literally. I was drawing Viking ships teeming with warriors on goldenrod notebook paper and modeling mummies and Frankenstein monsters - complete with various anatomically incorrect organs within hollowed out chest cavities - out of modeling clay since I was in elementary school. I don't do art out of pretense, or a desire for recognition or wealth - any artist can tell you what a waste of time that route to fame and fortune is!   I do it because I always have; it is a compulsion, a need.   If I stop, then I become ill.   Ever since I was a child, my mind has been overflowing with characters and fantastic creatures and the worlds in which they live, and they all demand to be released.   Through my art I do that.   I tell stories.   I don't really make too many immediately obvious statements, nor are they terribly profound, I'll leave that to other more high-minded artists who prefer to make pieces too big for most of the space left to us in this world.
    .
The size of my work and the subject matter of it tend to focus on the microcosm rather than the macrocosm.   They occupy the space left over in the world, the tiny places between the roots and the trees.   Indeed, a great deal of the material I use for my work makes use of materials that most people would simply discard as too small, as scraps of what is left over.   I use pretty much whatever materials I feel will achieve the vision I have in my head.   I have mad frequent use of such materials as wood putty used in conjunction with particularly interesting pieces of roots from uprooted shrubs, acorn caps, and scraps of leather or various other fabrics.   I sometimes let the shapes of the scraps of cloth or leather dictate how they will come together or I simply cut them and piece them together to make more formal costuming out of them.   Almost all of the costumes are hand-stitched by me - I only recently began to learn how to make use of a sewing machine to speed up what parts of the process I could!   My primary materials of preference, however, are the various polymer clays out on the market.     All of my pieces are hand modeled - NOT FROM MOLDS, unless they are molds from my own original works - OOAK (one of a kind) pieces.   I do all my own costume designs, armatures, painting, wigging, carving, and set design work, and where I do not, it is accordingly specified in the piece's description.   The stories that accompany most of the pieces are of my own devising or have been pulled directly from old faerie tales, myths and legends. Books and stories have always been a large part of my life along with music, and they have all walked hand-in-hand with my art.   The subject matter of my pieces is as heavily influenced by nature, as it is folklore and mythology...and from the Fae themselves.   The very character of a face can come to me from the shape and size of an acorn cap. This all stems from my memories of my great grand-parents' six-acre plot of land, now entirely black-topped over and long since sub-divided.   It was almost entirely covered in forest, and my brother and I would spend nearly every Sunday exploring every inch of it.   It was my entrance into Faerie, thick with faeries, goblins, elves, and gnomes. And as all the tales say, once a mortal visits there, they remain changed forever, and so I was and am.   Many of my ideas come from my own imagination- I think!- but a self-education in various folkloric traditions provides a great deal of inspiration.
Music: Oh my...so much. If you really want to hear a decent selection, go listen to my own radio station on Pandora- but even that doesn't cover all the Independent label stuff I listen to. Here's the link to my Pandora station: "http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh140826926764976858"

Movies: I have to admit, mostly fantasy and some Sci Fi...some horror- not slasher stuff.
TV: More than I should...Ghost Hunters, Dr Who, some stuff on Cartoon Network, Discovery, History Channel, and PBS, Heroes...
Books: Sooo many!!!!!!!!! I also read a lot of reference stuff on folk lore, mythology, faerie-lore, fairy tales, and the like.
Likes: My wife, my step-daughter, my cat Stella, Nature in all her glory...trees, flowers, mushrooms, grass, rocks, birds animals...all of it!!!! The Faerie Folk- I'm glad they allow me to be one of their representatives! Medieval history and weapons- armor, swords, etc. Pipes, toys, stuff, music, books, ART, sweet smells, Autumn and everything about it, cool weather, snow
Dislikes: Being poor, politics of all kinds, politicians of every breed and bent, rude people, self centered people, liars, pain, heat, Global Warming, country music
Hobbies: My hobbies are my vocation: sculpting, sewing, drawing, writing, and I am an amateur naturalist.
Vices: Caffeine in most it's forms, sugar- again, in most it's forms, the very, VERY occasional cigar and/or pipe, occasionally a good beer and/or good wine...
    Virtues: Uhmm...
Heroes: My wife. my great grandmother, my step-daughter, my Jr High art teacher Mr Steve Mahoney

    The World of Kevin Buntin

First, some HOBGOBLIN MARKET hawking!   I wanted to remind you all that I still have some items for sale, all of which you can see additional pics thereof within my gallery here on Enchanted Folk. Due to my growing displeasure with places like EBay and their recent and very detrimental policy changes and increased fees, I am trying to find other venues to offer my work for sale. And so, Enchanted Folk seemed one of the perfect places to do so!!!! These items are also being offered on some of my other sites, so it's first come, first serve:   Seamus the Leprechaun plus this entire set is STILL for sale. Serious enquires as to price and other payment details/options can be e-mailed to me directly here: info@kevinbuntin.com

Or, you can send me a message here on EF too!

Seamus is one of my higher end pieces, so the price is high...

My Man In The Moon figure is still for sale...SOLD!!!!!!!

I'm asking $100- originally $140- plus whatever S/H works out to be for your shipping destination.

The Arachnophile Jonely Bonely is still for sale...one of my slightly more macabre pieces, but still with a bit of a sense of humor I think...

I'm asking $80 plus the appropriate S/H charges for him.

I have still one of my Jack-o-lantern Scarecrow dolls available... Halloween is one of my favorite times of year and I'd do these all year long, and often do!

I'm asking $80 for him plus S/H fees to be calculated according to your destination.

I also have a few of my Treasures from the Hedge line available...

I have two of these left- my Woodland Bookmarks- and they are, of course, for sale: the second one- the red maple leaf- and the last one- the green fern- are still available for $20 each plus S/H fees

I also have the last of my Rune Stone necklaces available, all are $25 each plus whatever S/H charges will be. I may do more of these in the future if demand dictates that I do so...

    Teiwaz- the warrior rune

Eihwaz- the rune of patience and defense- version 1

    Uruz- the rune of strength

Sowelu- the rune of wholeness & the Sun

And finally, Eihwaz- the rune of patience and defense- version 2

Now for thr rest of my news...

First off- thanks again to all the wonderful folks who've sent me messages, magical mischief, befriended me and approved my friendship requests and and all of those who have commented on my work!!!!! I try to thank everyone who adds me to their watch list or sends me a message, but that number has been growing while my time has been diminishing and I fear that I've become one of those folks who must always apologize for not being able to thank each one of you personally...I always disliked that, but lo and behold I'm at that point. Part of that may be due to my terrible time management skills- which are nearly nonexistent- but another part of of the problem here lately has been due to a lot of personal stuff and my having been sick off and on now for nearly a month- nothing really serious, but I'm sick of being sick...

Secondly, I've been spending a lot of time trying to revive and generate a new presence generally everywhere for my art and my writing- this has meant trying to submit stuff to various publications as well as trying out some more and newer- to me and new in general- on-line communities and sites for artists and doll makers and fantasy/mythic related stuff in general. I'm a firm believer in not putting all of ones eggs in just one basket. Other than this wonderful place here on Enchanted Folk, here are the other places you can find me...sometimes:

Live Journal- though I have spent little time there, but that may change-

    Epilogue-

    My Space-

    Deviant Art-

    http://boggleboy.deviantart.com/

The Fairy Society- again, a really cool place-

    http://thefairysociety.ning.com/profile/KevinBuntin

And just recently a place called the Talent Database for which there is a banner below...
And many other sites that I never did too much more with, some doll forums that will try to be a bit more active on.

So you can see, I think, the problem for someone such as me and the kind of work that I do becomes an issue of trying to divide ones time between self promotion, keeping in touch, doing the business end of this all, writing, photographing, packing up items for shipping, and then...oh yeah, the actual art work! I love it all, but...well sometimes I go a bit MIA...

I would also like to let folks know that I am to have some of my Little Ones featured in some upcoming issues ofCDC- Contemporary Doll Collector- Magazine. I have not been told which issue(s) as yet, but I will let you folks know when I find out. I will be soliciting other such magazines as well for some feature spaces, so keep yer eyes here on this spot! And some of my most exciting news, I am one of several artists that have been featured in The Encyclopedia of Polymer Clay Techniques by Sue Heaser, published by Running Press

There are a lot of extremely talented folks featured therein and I was invited to be in this with them and quite frankly I'm stunned, honored and tickled pink that I was asked and that I'm in!!!! It is a hardbound book and I gotta say...folks, it's impressive! I got my comp copy and it is not only a book I would have wanted to own for the information included therein, but also because of the quality of it and the photos inside. This has been a project in the works for some time now, but I didn't want to mention it until I saw that it wasn't going to be killed as so many projects often do. Here is a link to the Running Press web site page that gives you places where it can be purchased on-line as well as good old brick-and-mortar shops where it can be purchased- and no, I don't get any more money for each copy sold, I just think this is a really cool book! http://www.perseusbooksgroup.com/runningpress/howtoorder.jsp?isbn=0762430877

Well, that was a lot, and if any one made it even half way through all of this, I thank you heartily. I hope to hear back from all of you here...take care everyone!

    Hi Kevin!

I'm absolutely in love with your work! The characters are totally inhabited by your spirit. Especially like your avatar with his kind eyes. I totally understand what you mean when you say you don't do art because you want to...you HAVE to. I have always been the same way. I HAVE to create something-- everyday--or I begin to change into a very nasty witch. It is in my blood, creating makes my blood sing and keeps the world balanced.
