About Me: Hi! I'm an Australian fairy and fantasy artist from Sydney, Australia. I have always been drawn to mythical, fantastic and imaginative worlds and expressed them ever since I could hold a pen! My bed that I've had since I was 3 years old (and that I still own) still has goblins and creatures etched deeply into it with green pencil! My first artwork was sold when I was four years old. I consantly strive to better my artistic skills and explore new mediums and styles. I'm an endlessly curious person and am always researching random things. I've studied English Literature, Egyptology, Medieval History, Mythology, Latin, Hieroglyphics and Old English at University and also have my own coded alphabet that I write all my secrets down in! I'm always imagining things and find it hard to turn off my rambling thoughts at night. I LOVE cupcakes with pink icing and eat cereal for almost every meal. I love to experience nature...I live amongst the gorgeous Australian bush and could never move to the city. I am a romantic at heart and live in my own fairytale...complete with my handsome prince in shining armour who I'm so in love with! I love life, love and magic and experience all three to the fullest each and every day!

The most important place you can see me and my artworks is my online gallery and store: www.kirstinmills.com, featuring prints of all my artworks, many originals and also lots of lovely gifts and products featuring my art!

I also have galleries on DeviantArt, Artwanted, Elfwood and The Australian Fantasy Art Enclave.

For updates on my art, new artworks as they're done and more random thoughts from my overactive mind see my LiveJournal Account: www.livejournal.com/kirstinmills
Music: I like almost everything! Jazz and swing have a particular resonance with me. My favourite musician/singer/songwriter of all though is actually my partner (I'm completely unbiased I swear!)...Ashley Morse: www.myspace.com/ashleymorsemusic
Movies: The Wizard of Oz, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (Both BBC and recent versions), Mary Poppins, Disney Movies, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Star Wars, The Dark Crystal, Love Actually, the Batman films, Spiderman, Tomb Raider (I want her job!!!), Tristan and Isolde...made me cry for ages!, Austin Powers, James Bond films (mostly the Sean Connery Ones), Shrek and Shrek2, Adventure and Pirate movies...my favourite!
TV: ABC kids!!! It's the best! All the cool old cartoons and shows from the late 80s and early 90s...how good were they?!? Widget the World-watcher, Trapdoor, Swap-shop, Amazing, Ship to Shore (I always get the theme song stuck in my head!) Alias the Jester, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Art Attack, Simon and the Witch (on Couch Potato), Tin Tin, Dangermouse, Batman, Count Duckula, Raggy Dolls, Ratties, Wombles of Wimbledon, The Chipmunks, Saturday Disney...I could go on forever!!!! Endless fun! I loved my childhood! These days...House, The Winx Club!!!! haha I don't watch much now coz I'm too busy reading books. Star Gate was awesome!!!! The OC was addictive (after ages of avoiding it I got sucked in...it's so funny!), I liked Charmed and Sabrina the Teenage Witch (hehe) and best TV episodes of all time in the history of everything....the 1996 BBC production of 'Pride and Prejudice' with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle!!!! SOOOO Good!!!!! I know it off by heart!
Books: I've always been a big reader so my list would be long if I included all the books I've loved! I was always deeply into fairytales and fantasy...my thesis last year was on the genre of epic-fantasy so anything under that banner is wonderful! I've got the entire 'Redwall' series and all Jane Austen's books...awesome! I love the Beatrix Potter and Winnie-the-Pooh stories. I love children's picture books and I love puzzle-books, the mystery-solving adventure ones!!! So fun! There are many more of course but the list is too wide and varied!
Likes: Lots of things!!!!!! Where do I start?! There isn't much I'm not interested in or that doesn't give me some kind of buzz...(I'm one of those people that can be amused by everything...I was never a bored kid!). In one word: Life! :)
Dislikes: Many things but I'm not going to get myself all worked up about them by listing so many horrible things in the one place!
Hobbies: Ummm...art? Reading, writing, collecting lots of things (otherwise known as not cleaning up), day-dreaming! Playing with my cat, resulting in many nasty scratches all up my arms! And playing with my dog..he's so cute!
Heroes: People who have stayed true to themselves and are completely happy within in the face of anything. People (especially women) who have overcome great obstacles by being this way and standing up for what they believe in. Fictional heroes...Elizabeth Bennet!!! haha. I love her! And Spiderman...I wish I could do that kind of stuff...I'd have so much fun!

    Fairy Inspirations Release!!

    Sunday, March 15, 2009, 5:32 AM [General]

I am so excited to finally be able to release this: a very exciting project that I have been working away at for months and months now!

    New Product: Fairy Inspirations CDs!

The first two CDs in what will be an expanding and collectible series of artists are myself and the lovely Judy Mastrangelo. I just want to say how much of a blessing Judy has been through all the trials of getting a huge project like this off the ground: my deepest thanks go out to her for her kindness, patience, unyeilding enthusiasm and understanding!

It has been a long project filled with many tasks and lessons, but the final gift came when I was finally able to pick the finished CDs up from the presser, who just couldn'e believe how beautiful they looked and how much detail was in the artworks! They absolutely exceeded my hopes and expectations in their quality and absolute enchantment- and the music on them, composed by the endlessly talented Ashley Morse, is just amazing. A totally brilliant way to experience the artworks like never before!

Go and have a look and read all about them at www.fairyinspirations.com!

These are beautiful...what a great idea!

I also visited your website, Kirstin, and really enjoyed browsing through all of your artwork.

I like your style and I particularly liked the piece that also graces your CD (I think it was called "Morning Gossip"). I thought that was just wonderful!

    Timewarp!

    Saturday, March 7, 2009, 7:04 PM [General]

Wow! I feel like I've just stepped out of a massive time-vaccuum. Has it really been that long since I have entered the gates of this wonderful community?! Unfortunately it has, but not for no good reason: I have been monumentally busy over the last few months with lots of new art, new products and an exciting new project just about to be released! I'll post more on that one when it's ready! :) I've also started tutoring in English Literature at my university, which is very time consuming but very stimulating and interesting at the same time. To catch up on all the new art and things you can always see my website: www.kirstinmills.com.

Also, for those that aren't already signed up, my free Yahoo Groups Newsletter is due to go out in a few days with this month's website update: sign up to take advantage of this month's special discount offer inside!

I hope everyone is well and happy and feeling fairy inspired!

    Fairy Blessings,

    Kirstin

    Hello Again!

    Monday, July 21, 2008, 10:31 PM [General]

    Hi everyone,

I have been so incredibly busy over the past few months with many wonderful new projects in the works, which I'll hopefully be able to reveal soon, a few more new artworks and of course my PhD research which keeps me really busy! I'm studying dreams and fantasy in Ninetenth Century British literature and it's both exciting and very time consuming! So I just wanted to drop by, send my love to the fairy folk at this lovely place and wish everyone many fairy blessings and happiness all round! :)
