20% OFF extended til this Friday!

Monday, July 27, 2009, 12:25 PM EST [General]

    Hello Enchantedfolk!

I sent a note out last week to let you know I had a sale on til last Friday! 20% off everything sold on my site - includes originals, prints & gifts. You had to be a member of my newsletter in order to be able to receive it. Because I love this site so much and get so much great feedback and have made so many great faerie friends, I'm giving you the code without needing you to be a newsletter subscriber.

It's a brand new cart system so I hope I've worked out all the bugs! It seems like I've been working on it forever...
    Here's a link to my site: www.LindaLaforge.com

Here's the code! Type "FIP" into the bottom of the cart, where it says Promo code! ("FIP" stands for Faerie important Person!)

Of course, I always throw in a little something extra before it goes in the mail! Thanks so much and have a fabulous day in your feary realm. (Hopefully it's not raining there... )

    with love,
    Linda

    St. Patrick's Day Drawing

Monday, March 2, 2009, 01:22 PM EST [General]

    St. Patrick's Day Drawing

I was inspired by good 'ole Uncle Sam. He always looked like a Leprechaun to me, don't you think? Of course, he needed a proper celtic knot design, a shamrock and a beer. AND the green hat with buckle! I did this late last week.

Halloween is my favourite holiday (we should get a day off for it), and St. Paddy's day is probably my second favourite!

I just had to share this image here. Once I get my shopping cart figured out the original black and white illustration will be for sale. For now, you get T-shirts and a nice beer stein. LOL Hope you like them!

Also!!! Got my wee local TV Spot online...

    www.lindalaforge.com/Anyo...

That's it for now! Going to pick up my paintings from the store, Earth & Sky Connection, where they've been all month, getting organized and hopefully, painting. It's been a while since I've done a painting...

That's a pretty awesome drawing. I dunno about Uncle Sam though... He's too locked into being "the Patriot" for me to see him otherwise. Now, perhaps if it weren't for that finger sticking out, but a mug looped in his grasp...

    Small Art Show Opportunity!

Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 12:33 PM EST [General]

My friend David Rankine, a Celtic artist here in Ontario is putting on a show in NewMarket. Please, anyone, let me know if you're interested! YOu can also contact David Direct. I added his contact info at bottom! (I'll be there!) ; )

Are you interested in an event April 11. It is a "Spirit Fest" presented in conjunction with Dulcimerhead's CD launch for the new one :DARK MANDALA

It's at the Old Town Hall in newmarket  - on Botsford ST. (very cool place) and fees will be minimal ( $45 or less even) > we want like minded people.  Displays will be 10am - right through concert event in the evening.

Bring your own display material/table(It will be very informal and I KNOW that everyone will present a lovely display.

Space: about 8' each - maybe more depending on others. A quick setup and easy tear down ... not like a trade show, just tabels and whatever easels etc.

If we can get 12 people we'll reduce costs. We will do a dinner also.

    lots of fun

    theme: Celebration of Creativity

It is more of a Art display and community of intention.

I guess the central focus is the ACT OF CREATION - as  liberating and helping act. It's about the energy of creation so just bring you and what you do... your gentle self and anyone who sits well with yopu as a creative being. There are many people participating who are artists and also energy healers/practioners.

    Copyright Question

Thursday, February 19, 2009, 11:02 AM EST [General]

Can anyone help me? I'm having a conudrum. In the 1st chapter I'm using 8 images, 4 of each from famous and long dead artists, in"Anyone Can Draw in Ten Sessions". I found out where the original paintings were and contacted them regarding reprint rights. I do want to do this honestly!

The first gallery requested $47 for one image. They told me they required that I purchase their high-res image and that I had no choice but to wait for it to be mailed to me. But I already HAVE all the images I need. They're small. I found them online for free.

The second response was from an Amsterdam Museum. She said, "There are no copyrights on works by artists who have died more then 70 years ago. The Van Gogh Museum does have copyrights on the pictures of the paintings. But since you need small images you can use these for free." When I began to READ the other info from other galleries, they're asking for copyrights on their photos of the paintings.

So I think my REAL issue is that I found images I wanted from various sites online. I don't know what their copyright is? What would you do? Technically, it's about the digital file and where it came from - NOT the artist and the work-of-art.

I greatly value your opinion!!! If I pay for reprint rights from the galleries and museums, I'll be out a minimum of $400.

    Thanx!!!

Copyrights are tricky. I've a great book that I refer to. Law for Artists. I also understand the 70 year rule, but there are exceptions. If it was purchased by a company and they still use the image and retain original purchase rights, lots of blah. blah.

If you know a lawyer that specializes in the arts it might be worth the consultation fee before publishing.

Please share what you learn. It's something we should be aware of.

PS The KH pencil looks like you enjoyed doing it.

Oh yeah, I wish to move to Canada :) I'm just tired of one tyrant after another going into the presidential office in the US. And 2 MONTHS?! Wow, that sounds so nice compared to a friggan year! The only thing that would catch me off guard if I could move would be to learn french. I averaged C's and D's in it :(
