    New paintings

Friday, April 3, 2009, 12:58 AM CST [General]

These paintings have been finished for a while, and now I'm finally getting to posting them. I'm really proud of the dragon. The acrylic over watercolor really worked well for it. I don't think I would have been able to do the same with watercolor. Yay for progress!

    Watercolor how to paint book

Finally I am ready to take pre-orders of the book I spent half of 2008 illustrating. It features walkthroughs for 12 paintings as well as pages on techniques and ideas for painting fairies and backgrounds.

I'm taking pre-orders for signed copies on my website. I will also include a mini of the cover art. The release date is March 1, but I may be able to get them from the publisher earlier.

What a delightful picture to see! I can't help but wonder at whom was happier, the customer over the beautiful artwork they picked up, or the creator so happy to see her dreams on display.

It really makes me happy for you, and I sincerely wish you continued success. :^)

A whole bunch of recent art....

Monday, June 30, 2008, 04:21 PM CST [General]

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. But in that time I did manage to get a lot of art done. I think I'm changing the way I use color a bit, at least in the paintings I do for myself. I'm having a lot more fun with color glazing.

Nice article, Meredith! The "reality" of everday life nowadays makes fantasy so much more appreciated, don't you think? Beautiful pieces in the article as well.

Wonderful article, Meredith! It's a little comforting to find that other artists have difficulty explaining their art form to people who aren't involved in the fantasy realm!

I was thrilled to get your book today. I love your teaching style, coming at me from so many graphical perspectives (which I do my best learning from).

I've never done any drawing or painting, though I've modified my faery photos. Sooo... I think I'm going to try tackling it using my Painter program.

    We'll see how it goes!

When the dragonsite first started in 2001 the plan was to cut out retailers and just sell the dragons exclusively via the website (hence the name :) ) the plan was very short lived though thankfully! but the name stayed, i actually like the name and think it suits the companys various dragon ranges.

thefairysite is a compromise i think :/ it's cheesy name but so many people used to joke that with the amount of fairies released they should change the name to the fairysite... so they decided to split the dragons and fairies up.

I would love to see your art made into dragonsite/fairysite figures rather than pacific trading, it would be great to see high quality figurines! i'll mention it on my forum because i really think your work deserves it :)

The Dragonsite started as just that, Dragons by named artists and sculptors but they expanded with an experiment with Faeries (since they are fantasy figures and they always said they would sculpt other fantasy creatures) the problem was, the faeries took off much better than anyone could have expected and they started to take over and they became very popular and thats when people who only knew the faeries and not the earlier dragons started asking why "dragonsite"? simple really, they started years before sculpting high quality dragons, it's just that most of the faery collectors didn't know this :)

I've just checked out your art! it's fantastic :D have Munro collectables been in touch with you regards to turning your art into figurines? your art is miles better than some of the artists they have used! (i'd better not mention any names ;) )
