THE MEETING
I walked along the storm tossed shore
Not sure what I was looking for
And then I came around a bend
And every other thought did end
She stared at me imploringly
And pointed down toward wounded knees
Oh wait...not knees...but wounded tail
And as I gazed my words did fail
Silver fishes in her hair
Iridescence everywhere
A ring of crabs protective there
Claws a-snapping in the air
As I bent low she grabbed my hand
I felt her need there in the sand
And so I stayed for most the day
And tended to her where she lay
Somehow she transferred to my mind
The memories of her own kind
Pirate ships with wind filled sails
Sailors weeping on the rails
Mad sea monsters who'd obey
Every word that she would say
Kind octopi who gently sway
Watching Merbabes as they play
And as I woke from reverie
I saw her wound had healed nicely
The tide was turning...coming in
She stretched and flexed her healthy fin
Creatures waited in the sea
Thousands waiting patiently
A wave came in...my toes felt foam
She kissed my cheek ...and floated home.
THE MEETING
The Fideal...
Here's the one that won second place for Best of Froud...Poet of the Year. (See flag below).
It's one of my favorites...
The Fideal
She wanders through the lakeshore reeds
searching for her lover
promises broken vows unkept
now longing for another
Her song seductive trails behind
quietly enchanting
so men cant help but follow
calling to her...weeping...panting
Her kiss is earth her skin the sky
her eyes reflect the sea
her touch is longed for liquid
lifeblood electricity
Her whispered verse thrums on the air
calling the one she's missed
she canna seem to find him
yet she's sure he must exist
He'll bind himself to only her
he'll keep the vows he pledges
He will not swerve in loyalty
or love that he professes
But she has yet to come across
one strong enough as this
and all the others still can taste
her final burning kiss
She leaves them trapped in briny depths
forever eyes unseeing
mouths filled with weeds their broken hearts
slowly slowly beating...

I'm glad you posted some more...I really like The Fideal, also. The picture on your Froud poet award looks very appropriate to go along with this poem! Thanks for the comments on my Faerie Dance picture. Susan Schroder |
Remember the Lost Ones...
This one was inspired by something Ari Berk wrote in Faerie Mag once...
REMEMBER THE LOST ONES...
Remember the lost ones and those without names
Remember the hungry and
those who feel shame
While you revel and warm yourselves
with the hearth's flames
Remember the banished and outcast
Think of those standing outside looking in
or walking the darkened moors
empty within
calling for you
to forgive them their sins
as you turn your back in judgement steadfast
Once in a while
look for those
who've been lost
throw open your door
let the warmth melt the frost
and ask someone in
from the fringe of exhaustion
to fill up their bone weary souls
All of us started here
muchly the same
nobody starts their life
in sin and shame
so on this one night throw out
all of your blame
for the Goblins and Giants
and Trolls.
Frustrated...
I've had the great honor of winning Best of Froud...Poetry twice in the last couple of years.
Once I won first place and the second time won second.
They give you really cool banners to put on your website but I didnt have a website. I wanted to add them here but when I went to look for them I must have only saved the second place one.
*sigh*
