British and Irish folkrock with guts, atmosphere and celtic undertones
is the trademark of FolkPort. Their varied musical concept covers everything
between punchy trad.- and dancetunes and poetic ballads and instrumentals.
With their unique joy in performance, relaxed stage presence and a
perfect mix between their own and more traditional music, FolkPort creates a
mutual music pub mood. Whether it’s on a large festival stage or at a smaller
concert venue doesn’t matter. It happens every time. You can set your mind at
peace with epic ballads or sing along to nasty drinking tunes but you will
surely not be able to sit still when FolkPort stir up their punchy dancetunes,
jigs & reels.
After some years on the road with their music FolkPort is a band in
demand for festivals and concert venues in Norway and abroad and they performed
at their third Skagen Festival in Denmark in 2007.
Celtic
– Medieval – Folk If you are expecting here the well-known sound of popular
medieval bands, you will be surprised: The performance of “Dunkelschön” is full
of variety and offers a sensual experience of its own. And the result is really
impressive! Seduced by lovely ballads first, the audience is in the next moment
unexpectedly carried away on the wings of “Dunkelschön” to the magic world of
knights, gnomes and other fairytale creatures. At the same time you are
listening to melodies of the present and the past – transforming the performance
of “Dunkelschön” into an fascinating experience of music for everyone.
Wistmans Wood are an exciting new trio featuring three of Devons finest
traditional musicians. Steve Turners exquisite accordion style, Jackie Oatess
lyrical violin playing and vocals and Andy Clarke's assured guitar and bouzouki
playing and vocals combine to produce a very English sound which is at times
understated and tranquil, at times inventive, bold and dynamic. They draw much
of their material from the British song tradition, complemented by new and
original instrumental compositions.
My
name is Marc Gunn (duh!). I live in Austin, Texas with my two tabby cats,
Tiziano and Torre (TnT). I also perform with the
Brobdingnagian Bards, a
Celtic folk group, and the former number one World music band on MP3.com having
had over 5,000,000 downloads. About a million of those downloads came from one
song, "Tolkien (The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings)." Aside from Celtic music, I
love a wide variety of musical styles, including American and Italian folk
songs, but the vast majority are Irish and Scottish folk songs and my original
songs.
High
Priestess was signed on to play at the illustrious Labyrinth of Jareth ball in
2003, and although she treated them to an amazing selection of her electronic
art, the Fae court demanded the magickal sounds of acoustic vibration. Inspired,
High Priestess called a bevy of amazing artists to her side, cleanly and openly
explaining her need, nay, want for all of those who hear her music to be
transported to another place. A place of Divine worship and trancendance of the
spirit. She wanted to bring the fire in her heart into a band that's destiny was
to create music which would awaken the hearts of those who listened, bringing
them closer to the Goddess Light. The songs were wrought from the fibers of her
true inner heart, weaved through the music to create a change in the very fabric
of reality. The musicians formed a devoted core who honed their skills during a
residency at the historic Kibbitz Room at Canter's Deli through 2006. They
practiced their faerie magick in the heart of Hollywood... calling sprites and
vampires and Goddesses to their aid. High Priestess wrote songs calling home the
glittering tribe of Those Who Hear... singing with intention to awaken all to
share her bliss. Now they have released an album with the sweetest of these
tunes. Come, follow the members of High Priestess as they sing their OakSong,
into the heart of the forest...
The
Mediaeval Baebes have established a legendary reputation for themselves by
reviving ancient text and song and turning historical fantasy into reality for
the pleasure of a modern audience.
The band was formed in 1996 by Katharine Blake, the lead singer of the avant
garde gothic rock band, Miranda Sex Garden, and quickly found success in 1997
with their debut album, Salva Nos, which was certified Silver within weeks of
release and was Virgin Classics fastest selling debut album. The bands 1998
follow-up, Worldes Bylsse, blazed into the Classical Charts at No.1 to
widespread, critical acclaim. July 05 saw them return with their fifth studio
album, Mirabilis, which is already considered by some to be their finest work to
date.
Recognised as the originators of a new breed of acts responsible for spicing up
the classical world, the Mediaeval Baebes have always pushed the boundaries in
terms of attitude and musical approach. A provocative collective of beautiful
maidens, the Baebes comprise of seven young women vocalists, composers and
instrumentalists and dancers - from all corners of the globe, who delight in
their reputation for wantonness whilst singing songs from an age of innocence.
