Movies: Movies are muse fodder. I love to soak in a flick when my well feels dry. The good ones always stir me at just the right time.
TV: TV sucks in general, but Firefly and Hero rock!!!
Likes: Books, books, books--I'm afraid I'm addicted. The smell of books, the feel of books, The large and the small of books. I like 'em.
I just can't get enough of the beach and all its beauty. The ocean is my home away from home. I truely believe I was once a mermaid. ;)
Dislikes: Grumpy people and shoping (which mostly seem to go together, oddly enough). I can't stand lima beans, but who can? And cooking makes me itchy.
Hobbies: Reading, reading, and more reading. Dirt bike ridding and hanging out with my honey and munchkins. People watching is up there on the fun scale for me, too.
Vices: Dark Chocolate and Mojitos (extra mint)

Epilogue
Saturday, October 20, 2007, 05:23 PM [General]
Well, since I posted the last interaction with Epilogue here, I thought I would update you on how it's going. After getting rejected by them several times I subbed the same work to Fantastic Portfolio to get a better idea of what I need to work on. It was very helpful! And so I kept the things/problems they mentioned in mind with my next two pieces. The first was Eros:
I subbed it at Epilogue, and it got rejected for lack of detail or unrefined. Similar rejection to the previous subs. Well, I went to the forums there (another wonderful tool) and put it in the critique section for a little elaboration. The critiquer was great and pointed out several things I myself had been stewing over as probably the reasons for the reject. It wasn't fun getting the reject but it was great to know that I'd noticed the errors in drawing it (just couldn't seem to fix them--or get them right). It means my eye is improving. Yay! So, then I subbed my latest drawing, Possession. It passed! Yay! It's funny cause I saw three things that really bothered me in this one after I'd scanned it in and touched it up a little and I was fairly sure they would fail it for those reasons. And as I was drawing it all sorts of things were nagging at me. I hate that I have no faith in my skill. So many artists are more skilled and knowlageable than me. But it's nice to know that my eye is getting better. So, I now have a gallery (consisting of one piece) at Epilogue: Yay! Now I feel like I have a goal for my work. If it can pass the test I'm getting better with each piece. I just need to remember to still enjoy it too. :D Short Story Published

I'm trying to catch up on getting my art out there into the ether, and I knew there was one place I had to stop: Epilogue. The fantasy art site. I have several friends who have galleries there. Seems like a cool place.
So, I signed up and picked four pieces to submit. I knew there was a chance they'd say no, but I'm kind of used to being rejected from working as a writer for the last few years. I was surprised, though, when all four were rejected. Here's what they said: Cali Girl had anatomy issues Midnight said, lacks detail and/or unrefined Jade said, lacks detail and/or unrefined Innocence said, needs minor touching up Okay, now, I'm not complaining here, I promise. :D My question is: what now? Do I just keep subbing to them and hope they will like my work, eventually? The reasons they gave are very vague, and obviously a "choose A, B, or C" scenario. I guess I'm not sure what to do with this. I know I'm not The Bomb or anything. I have no delusions on that score. Just curious what others have experienced and maybe advice on how to make my work better (since it seems to have form and tech issues I was blissfully unaware of). ;) Please, feel free to check these pieces out more closely to help me refine my work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks friends! Rachel~ Innocence...

I was sick in bed Friday and Saturday, and my brain was too foggy to think and do work, so I took a small break from the illustration gig and cheated a little *shhhhh, don't tell the publisher* Here she is: Not perfectly happy with it, but I have to move on. I think I botched it on the third butterfly in the upper left. :( Oh, well.... Thanks for peeking.
