About Me: I am a whimsical, mystical sort of fellow, a Green Man (and member of the Beloved Order of the Green Man), staffer at Spoutwood Farm (home of the May Day Fairie Festival), writer, medievalist, farmer, environmentalist, inveterate punster, and owner (I have been told) of a ready smile and a hearty laugh. I've been known to give a good massage, and am quite affectionate in general, especially with members of the opposite sex. I enjoy a horn of mead every now and then, and telling tales and singing songs around the campfire.
Music: Woodland, Loreena McKennitt, Stevie Nicks, KIVA, Meat Loaf, Gregorian chant, and a broad mix of just about everything else (except rap), depending on my mood. And yes, I do listen to and enjoy country. Frequently!
Movies: Most recently, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." Other favorites have included "The Lion in Winter," "Ladyhawke," "Witness," "Titanic," and the original "Star Wars" trilogy. Didn't care for the first LOTR movie and never saw the rest... too dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien's original vision in the books, I guess.
TV: Not much! News, mostly, and (when I have cable access) Discovery, History, and Learning Channels.
Books: J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings," of course... More recently, J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series. Not quite on the same level, but still enjoyable and at times gripping. Charles deLint, especially "Moonheart." Katherine Kurtz's "Deryni" series. Lotsa miscellaneous science fiction and fantasy, over the years. In nonfiction, Aldo Leopold's "A Sand County Almanac," and many books on nature, ecology, and sustainable farming/living.
Likes: In general, sunsets, the change of seasons, moonlight and starlight, firelight and candlelight, Celtic, Renaissance, and Fairie Festivals, country fairs, hiking, canoeing, kayaking (flatwater/recreational), classic things in general, gardening, and cooking. With someone special, hugs, kisses, cuddles, snuggles, holding hands, massages, long walk or drives, deep sweet long wet kisses, and the touch of skin on skin.
Dislikes: Arrogance, closed-mindedness, political labels, political correctness, politics in general, corporate greed, big government, and unfaithfulness. Also green peppers and cucumbers (which I actually like, but they don't like me), and usually, brussels sprouts.
Hobbies: I think I've listed (or at least, alluded) most of these in other categories, above!
Vices: Probably caffeine (in the form of morning coffee, I don't drink many caffeinated beverages otherwise) and chocolate. Although, since I like dark chocolate, that's not really counted as a vice any more. Don't you love it when your vices become antioxidants...?
Virtues: I was at one point a Boy Scout, and actually took a lot of those corny, old-fashioned virtues to heart. I really am, or at least try to be, trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, brave, and clean. Obedient, thrifty and reverent are a little more variable.....
Heroes: My parents, both members of The Greatest Generation, and especially my father, who defended our country as an infantryman in World War II and again, in a different way, during the Cold War. Aldo Leopold, "the father of modern conservation." J.R.R. Tolkien, writer and folklorist extraordinaire. Probably others I can't now think of.
