About Me: I was born in Maine and moved to Illinois-my husband's home state -in the 70's. I have been a mother, grandmother, wife and business partner. But the turning point of my life was when I literally woke up to a totally alien world where I was no longer employable because of my age (even though I had run a company since 1994). My husband died suddenly and with him, our way of living. So I decided to implement an old dream --to launch my own doll business.I wanted to make money doing something I loved and I had the advantage of having sold them at a local art gallery for a few years as a hobby. Then I got the idea to write books about them so that they weren't just dolls on a shelf. Now they have personalities, adventures and relationships.I'm totally committed to my plan, have all the basic steps in place--now I need the advice of some "fairy people" as to where to market, etc.I also just want to have some friends who like what I like.I have a lot of friends, but they don't understand my passion for fantasy.
Music: My tastes in most things are eclectic.I love new age music, classic, rock and roll and show tunes.
Movies: The old movies from the 30"s to the 50"s.My favorite is Mrs. Miniver.
TV: Is there anything to watch on tv anymore?
Books: I love historical romances, English detectives, garden books, medieval European history, ansient history,Celtic folklore
Likes: I like people.New ideas and perspectives are energizing to me, and if the people are creative----its heaven! Flowers, old movies, bubble baths, fairytales, glittery things, bright colors
Dislikes: Self centered, bigoted people, loud noises, bratty children.
    Hobbies: Gardening, reading,volunteering,sewing.
Vices: I tend to think I am right. Mind you, I won't try to convert you to my opinion, but I'll be sure you are wrong and have the right to stay there.
Virtues: I have the ability to see things from the other guy's point of view. I am open, friendly, willing to help where I can. And I am creative and passionate about it.
Heroes: Queen Elizabeth the first. She walked a tightrope her whole life just to stay alive and sacrificed all she cared for to be a good queen.

    FaerieCon beginner

Monday, November 9, 2009, 11:37 AM EST [General]

I returned to "reality" last night after 3 days in the faerie realm--otherwise known as my first FaerieCon. It was like being at a 3 day masquerade party and I loved it!The costumes were beyond unbelievable! On friday, I was mistaken for Linda Ravenscroft, which made my day! We do look similar, and I love to listen to her melodious English accent. Diana Zimmerman was also very warm and easy to talk with. I came home with my head filled with pictures and ideas. today I plan to clean up my workroom so I can start on some of them. My one disappointment---and I heard it from other first timers, too---was there was no type of get together where we could meet people and begin to form friendships. Everyone was friendly, but exchanging a few words in hallways and exhibit halls isn't the same. Everyone is fixed on what they are looking for/doing to bother there.

That's why we try to organize the Merry Meets to coincide -- we had two small but lively meal-get-togethers during FaerieCon, where we had good conversations and learned a bit about each other. My only regret is that the hotel restaurant where we held them didn't bother to put all the parties together -- some of us met on the "wrong" side of the restaurant...(Sigh!)

Yes, just as Robert said....we seemed to miss each other in the restaurant meeting. I really did enjoy meeting you though, even briefly! Your comment on being mistaken for Linda Ravenscroft gave me quite a chuckle, too, because when I first saw you I also noticed the resemblance....I just didn't say it out loud ;)

    Fantasy arts and craft festivals

Saturday, September 26, 2009, 10:17 PM EST [General]

Does anyone know of some well attended fantasy based arts and crafts festivals or fantasy conventions---preferably in the Midwest? I am developing a new line of warrior fairies and some fantasy figures as well as dragons and I think they will appeal to the male contingent as well as the female. I'm trying to expand my customer base and have never known anyone who is into fantasy as opposed to fae to turn to for advise. Any suggestions?

I just put some of the main characters in my childrens book in an online store with FuzzB! They are under the general heading of fairy or fantasy. I included a bit of each story with the description. Check them out!

    I'm all set for FaerieCon!

I can't wait to see you in Baltimore! Looking forward to the exhibit hall to ogle all the talent and I'm working on some new pieces to my fairy wardrobe for the balls. Judging from the pictures of the costumes of last year, there should be some awesome ones! Will there be a booth from Enchanted Folk where we can meet the people we have been talking online with?

    0 (0 Ratings)

Yay!! I will be there, too!
Are you coming just for fun or are you exhibiting??
I have a booth there so I should be pretty easy to find (Susan Schroder Arts). I love meeting people I chat with online.
The costumes at the balls are spectacular and so is the music.
As far as I am aware there is no specific booth for Enchanted Folks but Robert (Rydewhyll....I never spell that right) is going to be there walking around with a big EF banner to try and gather people. It's not always easy for me to leave my booth so I hope some EF members will swing by and say HI!
Maybe I will put an EF sign up somewhere in my booth.....

Actually, I'm trying to arrange to have a meeting site and time set aside for a Merry Meet and to be listed in the programming. If not possible, then I'll do the "wander with sign" schtick...

Hello Sandra! Where in Illinois do you live? I live in Casey, right on I-70 west of Terre Haute and east of Effingham.

    Hi again Sandra,

Being considered "old" caught me off gaurd too. I didn't think I was old either. Still don't. And I'm a hard worker so it's their loss if they think I'm too old to hire. :) :) :)
