    Fairy Art

This newsletter features recent updates and news from www.selinafenech.com
    August 2008

    • Some very exciting news! I have just signed with a publisher to create two oracle card decks, working with the amazing Lucy Cavendish as author. With these decks on the horizon, my three current card decks are being discontinued. Once they are sold out they won't be re-printed, and there's not a lot left now. In fact, one deck is already all gone! I will release more news about the new decks as work begins on them.
    • Five lovely new art prints have been released this month, including three unicorn sisters, so cute! When I was about 7 years old, I used to write stories all the time about these winged unicorn ponies, who are called Rainbow Wings, Sunset and Moonshine. They had all sorts of adventures, receiving special magical presents from the fairies, being captured by goblins, meeting mother nature! I was just thinking about the again the other day, and just knew I had to paint them again!
    • In the Specials & Sales section you will find some one of a kind items up for grabs! I have hand made a few brooches using Cameo settings and brooch pin backs, they look great. I might develop these into a proper product range, I might not, but right now there are only 4 available! I've also printed some one of a kind canvas ACEO style prints. These little trading card size prints look great, I just love how the prints look on canvas, like little old fashioned masterpieces!
    • All those sold out greeting cards are now back in stock, as well as some new designs, Far Far Away, Silver Sisters, Queen Mab, Queen Gloriana, and Queen Caelia!
    • Don't forget to pre-order your 2009 Selina Fenech Calendar from Ellen Million Graphics at http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/fantasyart/emggroup.php?id=32 to make sure you get a discount and don't miss out on your copy! My calendars have sold out well before the new year two years in a row now!
    • Next time you hear from me I will have completed all my chemotherapy treatment and be well on the way to recovery! Let me tell you, I'm stupidly excited about having my hair grow back! Being bald in winter is just BRRRR. Thanks to every who has sent well wishes during this time, it's really kept me going through some hard patches.

    Love and magic,
    Selina

    July Website Updates

    Saturday, July 19, 2008, 10:55 PM [General]

Copied from the Updates Newsletter for recent updates and news from www.selinafenech.com
    July 2008

I've been finding my chemo cycles recently too draining (and achey!) for painting lately, but I have a couple of other big exciting announcments for you!

    • The website has a brand new look! I thought it was about time for a redesign, so the site's had a big make over to a beautiful new enchanting layout, with improved navigation and information sections. I hope you like this new, more magical feeling site. Feel free to let me know what you think!
    • The BIG news is that Journals are finally in stock! It feels great to finally have my hands on these, and literally too, they feel so wonderful. The journals are solidly made, hard covered with a patterned faux suede fabric, are 8x10" in size and have 100 unlined pages of beige parchment for you to use for just about anything.
    • The Fairy Queens artworks I created a month ago are now available on a Coffee Mug and in Stationery Sets and Cameos, see them in the New Releases section along with the new Moonlit Magic coffee mug and more.
    • I've also just got the stock in of the new Cameo Pendants setting I have designed. These new settings are a step up in quality from the previous cameos (which were hardly lacking, if I may say so!). They are made from lead and nickel free pewter, plated with antique silver. I hope you like the new design!

    Breast Cancer Update

    Sunday, March 23, 2008, 06:58 PM [General]

Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes and support! I thought I had better post an update on how things are going with my treatment. So far everything has been really positive and going very well. I had surgery back on the 11th where they just cut the lump out. They did a check of the lymph nodes then as well to see if the cancer had spread at all, but they were clear, which is a really big YAY! It’s all healing really well too, I feel almost back to normal allready, they did such an awesome job (I barely even look different, except for what will be a super cool scar!).

A week after they came back with the full pathology results and confirmed the clear lymph nodes, and a clear margin on the removed tissue, which was the best news. Unfortunately the cancer type is a more aggressive form, so just to be sure they clear out any tiny bit that might still be hiding somewhere they are going to start me on chemotherapy in a few weeks time, and then radiotherapy after that. But it is expected that I will be 100% cancer free after all that. Of course they can never really know, and it’s something that I’ll have to keep an eye on for the rest of my life, but fingers crossed hey!

The chemo, as most people know, has a lot of side affects and will probably make me feel pretty goopy on and off for the next 4 months or so. Mostly fatigue and aches and such, and of course the famous hair loss! I’ve taken a stand against the hair loss, and am going to have fun over the next few weeks before treatment starts, with a series of ever-shortening crazy funky hair cuts. In fact, I’ve already been in and am now a shoulder length pale blond! Next I’m thinking a bright red pixie cut ^_^

On the art and business side of things, I’ve been so incredibly lazy, and unmotivated. I’m slowly working on and off on a commission for a beer label for Wychwood brewery, but otherwise haven’t done any new work. I’ve got some great ideas I want to start on soon though. I’ve got someone working the order filling part of my business for me which is nice (with my help on and off when needed, still training!). Also I’ve got a HUGE shipment of luscious journals on their way in by sea mail (about 2 months away!). They are so beautiful, just wait till you see them.

Anyway, thanks again everyone for your support! It feels as though I wouldn’t be getting such good results from my treatment without it.

    An Announcement...

    Saturday, March 1, 2008, 10:17 PM [General]

It was with some consideration that I've decided to make this public. While it feels as though this is a fairly private thing to be dealing with, I have never been good at keeping secrets, so I've decided to just let it out and make this announcement, both for myself, and for raising awareness that could potentially save lives.
During the last week of February, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The good news is that because it was found early it is small, treatable, and is being handled by some wonderful specialists with all care and haste. A full recovery is expected within as little as a few months. I will be in surgery in week to have the lump removed, and further treatment (chemo, radiotherapy) will be decided when post surgery pathology results are in. Everything from here on is taken one step at a time, with many possible outcomes along the way. But because I am young and healthy I have the best prognosis for a quick and positive outcome for the whole treatment.

I have two important requests that I am asking of my customers, fans and friends during this time:

    Understanding and privacy-

I will be getting help with my business during this time, but no doubt things will slow down quite a lot, and I hope everyone can be patient with us because I won’t have much time to train my helpers before my treatment begins!
Also, while I appreciate and am grateful for the well wishes I have already received, and believe that the positive energy of them is an important part of healing, I am asking that you don't contact me personally by email or otherwise on this subject. I will have a lot on my mind, physically, emotionally, and a very full schedule for the next few months! Please also be patient with replies for any business or art enquiries that need my attention.
I am feeling very positive about this at the moment, but I also know it will probably be quite a rollercoaster ride as treatment goes on. This is a life changing thing, but it is more positive for me than is often portrayed, but that is because it was diagnosed early, which leads me to…

    Awareness!
I am only 26 years old. I have no family history of breast cancer. I don't and have never smoked, and basically have no risk factors at all. I think this simply goes to show, this can happen to anyone. My message is simply to women of all ages, but particularly younger women, to self examine regularly, and if you find ANYTHING, do take it seriously. The majority of the time it will be something benign, but you don't want to not take it seriously the one time it could be cancer. Statistically, as many as one in eight woman will have breast cancer during their life time (generally over 45 years old), but luckily these days it is very treatable, but early detection is SO important to give the best results.

    Things I am grateful for:
    -    The wonderful support I've received so far from my family, my fiance (he is so amazing!), and both real life and online friends.
    -    The Australian health care system. It always amazes me the incredible level of care available without having to pay a cent.
    -    The lump is in my left breast, and I'm right handed! So I should have no problem continuing to paint!

For more information about Breast Cancer, please visit the very informative Cancer Council website at- http://www.cancercouncil.com.au/editoria

I will post updates here as I am able to about my progress to recovery, and otherwise try and keep the normal everyday posts going as well!
    :)
