It's been a wild grey day up here ...the trees in the garden tossing against dark autumnal clouds and I saw the first skein of migrating geese fly over in V-formation on their way from their breeding grounds further north (Greenland possibly).
I managed to find my photo of the Southern Hawker I mentioned yesterday - this photo was taken last summer of the dragonfly settled on a stone next to my pond. The colours don't show so brightly in the photo - in reality they are vivid apple-green and cyan blue on the tail.

Thank you so much, Be and Drew, for inviting me to join this new site...what a wonderful idea! I am just getting used to the system, so I hope I don't post anything in the wrong place!!
It's a little autumnal up here today in Scotland...after gales during the night...but a beautiful sighting in the garden yesterday of a gorgeous Southern Hawker dragonfly which is rare this far north but I was delighted to discover one laying eggs at the edge of my pond last year (I built the pond three years ago).
