About Me:
My name is Cynthia Toy (really!) and I have been a cloth dollmaker for about...hmm...ever... but seriously and professionally for about 18 years. I think it developed from an acute fiber addiction that I inherited from my mom. That plus an overactive imagination, reading lots of fantasy, 3 sons, and a lifelong love for dolls! I have always been interested in needlecraft of all kinds and have spent many years experimenting and learning how to manipulate cloth and fibers; sewing, spinning, knitting... you name it, I wanted to learn it! One of the many reasons I love making dolls is that it never gets boring because it involves so many different techniques... tired of sewing, glue for awhile, or knit, or play clay, or stuff, cut, weave, and the list goes on. I'm also a huge believer in all things fairy and dollmaking lets all those fairies that have been living in my head find their way into the world. The hardest part for me is letting my babies go off to new owners...but that's what pays the bills, so off they go! Each of my dolls requires many hours to make as I design and create each doll completely from my own imagination. In addition, each face is carefully drawn and painted by hand using no patterns or stencils and each doll is then signed and dated. Because of this, no two dolls are EVER exactly alike, like people, each has its own distinct personality. I am a Froud Artist of the month (May '07) and my dolls have been featured in the Fall and Winter 2006 issues of "Art Doll Quarterly" magazine.

It has been way too long since I found my way back to this site. My only excuse is that I have been enormously busy as usual...well actually much busier than normal for this time of year! But now that I've found my way back, I promise to turn up on a much more regular basis.
I thought I'd share my newest doll, The Queen of Hearts, who's not a fairy but a character from a fairy tale. My queen is on her way to the kitchen to cook up a bunch of tarts (of course!) and so she carries an apron and 2 of my favorite tart cookbooks. (I also LOVE to bake tarts! and in fact I offer a tart recipe in my blog.) You can see more pictures of the Queen in my Etsy shop where she is available for purchase.

I decided to add a new dragon fairy to my shop. Meet Jorintha, she is one of the “Dragon’s Daughters” a type of fairy whose partial dragon blood allows her to resist iron poisoning and allows her to live in urban areas. i
