Popping back in after a hiatus...

Friday, January 11, 2008, 10:16 AM CST [General]

The holidays kept me so busy that this is the first opportunity I've had to log back into here.  o_O  My sincerest apologies to those who had left me friend requests and had to wait so long for me to respond.  :(

I hope everyone's holidays were good and that your new year will be even better.  :)

My resolution for this year?  I'm going to be doing a big update and then putting my main website on hiatus for awhile this year so that I can focus on something different.  I'm very happy with the direction that my newer project is headed in, though, and it may very well be the path I ended up walking for a long time.  We shall see...  ;)

    Flower Update, Part II...

Saturday, September 29, 2007, 06:48 PM CST [General]

How odd!  I moved both the lavender plant and butterfly bush to the kitchen sink (which is right below a window) and now they're both happy as little clams.  Unfortunately for them, this arrangement won't last long because I'm going to need my kitchen sink back once the hubby and I move into the new place.  ;)   But, for now, it seems to be working out great for the plants.

    Flower update...

Monday, September 24, 2007, 11:31 AM CST [General]

As Mich recommended, my little lavender plant is getting full sunlight and doing well, so far. I've also added a purple butterfly plant to the mix. ;) My new livingroom currently doesn't have any curtains in the two, large front windows and there's a shelf all the way across below them. That's where my plants now sit, bathed in sunlight. Eventually, they'll move out to the front yard...it's just a matter of finding a safe place where they won't be mowed over accidentally. o_O

The care and feeding of a lavender plant.

Friday, September 21, 2007, 08:48 PM CST [General]

I bought a little lavender plant today as I'm in need of some new plants for my livingroom. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly the world's greenest thumb (varying shades of brown would be more accurate, actually). Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to care for the cute lil' thing? :)

Well, lavender is not really the best plant for indoors, but if you are willing to take outdoors at least once a week for a full day of sun, then it should remain relatively healthy. When inside it will have to be placed in an area that gets direct sunlight through a window.

Don't water it more than once every ten days. Lavender likes to have it's roots get a little dry inbetween waterings. Too much water and it will not be a happy wee thing at all.

My lavender thrives on neglect. Now, almost 8 years old, it is thick with flowers and has the most divine smell. It only gets watered when it rains, and lives in a spot in my front garden that gets sun for most of the day. It's never been fertilized, and it gets trimmed once ever couple of years. Honestly, this bush of mine has proven to be fairly indestructable, BUT ... it's outside.

Either I forget to water or my cat kills plants somehow or other. The only things that have survived is my african violet and a couple cheap house plants.

If you have one of those dishes that the pot rests in put water in that rather than the top of the pot so the roots can suck up water from the bottom.

Hi Victoria, thank you for being part of the EF community, it's so lovely to see your great art on here. (We just treated the family to the third series of 24 this holidays, and have now had to 'ban' ourselves from the next one until our eldest son - who started it! - has finished his Final exams... it's so addictive and we're so weak!!) I wish you good fortune with your new year plans and look forward to hearing more... Smiles,

Oh yeah. Sadly my favorite flowers are not good for kitties (I think that's anything from a bulb). But she only really ate plants the first year I had her and then she gave up.

Hey Vic, my sweet? Is there any chance that you have not completed all of the steps in your profile wizard thingamajiggy or have not updated your profile info since joining? It could be why I cannot find you listed in the recently joined section and why you're not appearing on my friend's list. I want to seeeeee you. *is pouting*
