As you know I make my own fairy wings. So far I've only made a pair of cellophane/vinyl wings, but I'm looking to make a pair of fabulous fabric wings for myself. I designed said pair of fabulous wings and I'm itching to get at it. Briana, my sister, also wants a pair of wings (cellophane) so I designed her a pair as well.
Design for my wings:
As you can see, there are two sets of wings, one smaller than the other. I thought this would give it a cool 3D look. It's a closed frame all the way around. There will be some soldering involved, but I'm perfectly fine with that. I just had to make sure that there were no solder points on sensitive spots. The spots that I sketched will be plain on the inside, but the fabric that I have is sheer white so you'll be able to see somewhat through it. The rest of the wings will be painted with an iridescent acrylic paint (like a pearl) so it will reflect multiple colors. For the line of the spots I'll outline the space with a paint writer (squeeze tube paint), and I'll probably end up putting little jewels here and there.
Design for Briana's wings:
These are going to be cellophane/vinyl membrane wings. She doesn't want the bar that can slip into a bodice, so we're going for clear straps instead. This means we'll probably decorate the support bar in something. You may notice that there aren't any color lines. This is because we are going to paint the membrane with glass paint (for a stained glass look) in the style that Amy Brown does her wings- watercolor looking. We'll probably end up throwing some more veins in there via paint as well.
So yeah! That's what I'm going for. If I get these wings done the way I want them then they will be hardcore kick ass. Woot!

Seeing your drawings flashed me back to high school, when I dream-drew my first pair of wings as a sophomore. Your drawings are sooo cool! I remember figuring out the thises and thats of what it would take and cost for my wings, but I never built them, because then hang gliders came on the scene, and I was off building my first "Batso" hang glider! |

Look very nice -- be sure to post photos when they're done!
