    Frustrated and worried...

Saturday, August 23, 2008, 02:16 PM EST [General]

I've been attempting to create PDF files of each page of the Enchanted Folk Book of Faeries, both for printer references and to show each contributor what 'their' page would look like...

However, my converter program has suddenly decided that it will no longer accept certain IMPORTANT information like a particular font, or picture sizes, so now I'm running behind on my production schedule, and trying desperately to get the problem fixed. And on top of that problem, I'm also finding that OTHER programs are starting to act up as well... (Sigh!) There are times when I almost wish I could go back to using a physical "Cut and Paste" and photocopiers  for mockups... At least then, I could usually resolve the problem by peeling up the crooked line and changing its position... UUUURRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!

I think I'm going to take the rest of the afternoon to do a complete hard-drive reboot, run all the diagnostics, and (hopefully) fix the problems...

Oh yeah, and a reminder to everyone attending FaerieCon International in Philadelphia in October -- Watch for the bearded elf carrying around this sign... and be sure to stop him and say "Hi, I'm on Enchanted Folk too!"

Ahh, a "Cascading Murphy." (I ran into one just yesterday!)

Might it possibly be that somebody feels slighted by something in the manuscript and has gone gremlin on you? Or gotten curious about what you were doing and peered too closely for the electronics to handle? I was working on a complex, multi-layered illustration relevant to Faerie at one point, and it turned into a one-layer hash of pixels in blurry stripes for no apparent reason. A friend then called up saying that her fairy-friend wanted to apologize for something or other regarding me, he had been too curious about something that I'd been doing...

Interesting. I just sent you a comment and it vanished. I was about to suggest the possibility that somebody might have taken offense at something in the manuscript.

Alternatively, fairies sometimes get curious about things concerning them, and peer too close to computer for the electronics to handle. I once had nearly completed a complicated, multi-layered fairy-themed picture, only to suddenly have it melt down for no apparent reason into a single-layered blur of pixel-stripes, and nothing I could do would restore it. After this a friend contacted me saying that her fairy-friend wanted to apologize to me for something or other, he'd gotten too curious...

So understand technology frustrations! Had a complete crash in July that put me back weeks on all sorts of projects ;P

Sending healing energies to your electronics and best wishes to you for ultimate success over the machines!

Hope to see you in October in Philly!

Oh yes, I know that "UUUURRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!" feeling very well, too. (Along with my car) I just want my computer to WORK without problems, ALWAYS!! But, unfortunately, that's never reality. I am sorry to hear of this struggle, though, as we are all anxious to see the book.
I wish there was something I could do to help.

I really am looking forward to finally meeting you in person at FaerieCon....and everyone else that can make it.
