Comic-con is over for another year. . .I'll need that year to recoup

    Tuesday, July 29, 2008, 12:05 AM [General]

It's Monday night, I took today off, because, well one has to shower, and clean clothes, and rest after 5 days of craziness with a 7:00 am PT appointment right in the middle to boot. I am nuts. Was it fun. . . yeah, after I got over myself, I some times have to do that.  Was it crowded - way too crowded. Got some new art work, for my husband. He plays Magic the Gathering and I found a couple of prints from some cards. Also got lots and lots of new books, most free paid for 4 of them. Sat in on a panel. . if you want to call it that with the writer of the Artimus Fowl books. He told Irish tales and spoke of Family, and we laughed so hard we cried. I had not read the books before, but now that he blames the whole thing on his brother, I had to get an early book. It are a great read. Also got a book entitled "There Be Dragons out there", the author not only signed the book, but also did an illustration on the inside. My second of the type. Hunt down a book called "The Mouse Knight". It's a great read, and I've met the author, he also did all his illustrations. Last year he signed and illustrated my book.  He remembered me from last year. Not sure if good or bad.  He too was a Comic-con, his other books are available on line.  Anything else. Very late nights, ended up driving from Carlsbad everyday - not good on the gas conservation. Already have tickets for next year. Met Greg Bear. Cool. Almost ran right into Lavar Burton, think he was just being a geek like everyone else. I don't know that he was doing any panel or anything, but cool, was as close to me as my comupter is to me now. I didn't stop him. Did see Frank Miller and Samual Jackson on a Panel for "The Spirit", the lads from "Harold and Kumar", and the actors from "Chuck". Also saw Ray Bradbury, third year in a row, good to see him still getting around, as he's gotten old.  Spoke to Robert Culp, did not ask for autograph, just wanted to know how he was enjoying his stay at Comic-con. He had  done a panel for the Greatest American Hero, and it was a few hours later, he's older and frail, he was there for 2 or 3 days, I am sure he was just beaten by the end. My husband made him smile when he told him that he loved "Great Scout and Cat-house Thursday".   But I was also reminded what a tiny small world this place is - yet again.  We were looking for a book "Twilight" in the Mysterious Galaxy booth, which is run by my co-worker, Carl's, best friend Mary Elizabeth Hart.  And this older guy with gray hair is staring at me, and I am kind of looking at him, but not really. And My husband walks up to him - Dave - how are you.... seems they have known each other for a gazillion years, since way back in high school, and my husband is 58, and we've not seen him in at least 5 or 6 years. And yet he knows Carl.  Carl and I it seems know many of the same people of the outer fringers of each others friends. He knows my Brother-in-law's sister, Susan, but not my brother-in-Law David, or Steve's sister Suzanne. The circle is bigger then that. But it''s still weird. So Dave and Steve spend a good 30 minutes catching up with each other and getting phone numbers, etc. Pictures to come later. I've rambled as always and I have to go to bed, because tomorrow is work. Blagh.

OMGosh - sooo many wonders to comment on ~ firstly, I am very glad that you both had a great time, I was commiserating with Stephanie last week about us all not being able to go this year :( sigh... It's really wonderful that you got to hear Eoin Colfer's gig, our lads adore his great books & we saw his One Man Show a couple of years back in Bath, he was brilliant & I laughed till I cried! We're all extremely envious of the panels you attended, especially 'The Spirit' (the guys here are green - was there a sneak preview too?) Our eldest son, 19, has just devoured the Twilight saga & is looking forward to the latest book due out over here on Monday... he assures me I'd like it too. Well, I could go on too, sorry *big grin* but it's now been two years since we've had our Comic-con fix & we're parched ~ our boy is determined to get there in 09 on his own if need be!
I also wanted to sincerely wish you a Happy Birthday for tomorrow dear friend, I'm only months behind you & your words touched deep chords within me =) I also wish for you that you get to follow your goals & send many encouraging thoughts your way ~ thank you dear Zina for sharing so much,
